Chibanga's Procedure on

Chibanga's Story

“I tell him not to put on shorts when he goes out, because I have seen people mocking him before. When he is wearing trousers, his disability is less visible,” Chibanga's mother Mwika explains.

Mwika tells us she first noticed Chibanga’s legs were slanting inwards when he was five years old. She wasn't too concerned at the time time because the bending was minimal. Unfortunately, as Chibanga grew, so did his deformity which is known as knock knees. What concerns Mwika more than what Chibanga's legs look like, is how it is affecting his life. The worse the condition gets, the more pain Chibanga has trying to walk. It even affects his ability help with the chores around the house. Any time he even needs to stand, he gets worn out quickly.

Chibanga's aunt heard about us here at CURE Zambia and told Mwika she should try to bring Chibanga here. Skeptical, but daring to hope, Mwika did just this. Thankfully, we are indeed able to treat Chibanga's legs! Once he has had his surgeries, Chibanga will walk out of here on two straight legs, pain free! The only downside being he is going to have to start helping with more chores.

Chibanga had his surgery to straighten his legs! During his surgery, the doctors used a mobile x-ray - called a c-arm - to tamper the bones near his knee in order to change their growth trajectory. Thanks to this minimally invasive procedure, Chibanga's legs will essentially correct themselves as they continue to grow! Please pray for Chibanga as he recovers. Photo of Chibanga
