“Sometimes he comes back home crying when friends laugh at him, he even protests by stopping eating. He says there are hospitals were I can get treatment but you don’t want to take me,” shares Robina, grandmother to Gift.

Gift is a twelve year old boy from the northern part of Zambia, he has bowed legs which were noticed when he was two years of age and at about five years, he had surgery at a local hospital. What prompted them to take him to the hospital was when he was around four years old he use to cry of pain in his legs, especially after walking. After the surgery, his legs were corrected and the pain ceased, however, as he was growing older, the outside bending of the legs started reoccurring. This condition made Gift the subject of mockery and laughter from friends which sometimes pushed him to the extent of crying.

They heard abut CURE Zambia from a local hospital however could not come right away because of transportation difficulties. Luckily, we had a mobile clinic in an area near their village, they came through for the clinic and after screening they were told to come to CURE Zambia. Through collaboration with a local NGO we organized transportation for them to get here. We're so thankful for the many partners, including you, that it takes to bring children like Gift the healing that need!

Gift got some extra caring support in walking by his friend Joseph as they were going to the playroom! Joseph was carrying in one of his hands a get well message card which were distributed to the kids in the ward our visitors from the USA. Gift and Joseph have developed such a good friendship! It's encouraging to see compassion in action as Joseph helps Gift with getting around the ward when the wheel chairs are been used by other kids! Photo of Gift
