“We have we never taken him to hospital before to seek medical attention because we thought his condition will never be healed,” says Betina, Emmanuel's sister.

Emmanuel is a nine-year boy from the eastern province of Zambia. He is a double orphan. His father passed away in 2008 and his mother in 2016. His older sister who is the second born in the family of nine took the responsibility for taking care of him and three of his siblings. She describes the responsibility, as not being an easy undertaking because they are all still young. The oldest Betina is caring for is 17 years old, followed by one who is 12, Emmanuel, and then another one who is 7. On top of all of this, Betina has two of her own children to care of. Betina is a single mother and largely depends on farming to feed her unexpectedly large family.

Unlike most kids, Emmanuel didn't start walking until he was five years old. His condition has weighed heavily on Betina. She desperately wanted her mother's advice. "It has been difficult to raise him from the time our mother died and I think if she was alive, she could have probably brought him here earlier,” says Betina.

In their area, there is an NGO which runs a home based care for children with disabilities. They go around the villages in search of children with disabilities and find ways of assisting them. Those with treatable conditions, like Emmanuel, they help them seek needs from medication to institutions like CURE Zambia. He is currently not in school, but there is a teacher from the NGO who goes to teach him at home in order to prepare him for the time he will be enrolled in school, after he is healed.
We are delighted to making Emmanuel’s life a story of good news!

We are glad that he is showing steady progress towards his recovery. We hope he will completely be healed soon and we are certain it will happen with your prayers and support! Photo of Emmanuel

We found Emmanuel playing in the playroom! We were having our walk around the ward, checking on how all our kids were doing, and to our surprise when we got to Emmanuel’s bed he wasn’t there! We got curious and started looking around - we eventually went to the playroom room in search for him. To our delight, we found him in a group with other kids playing! This made us happy because it’s a sign that his pain has significantly reduced and there is emotional healing happening too. Thank you for your prayers and get well messages you have been sending to him, please continue as it is encouraging him! Photo of Emmanuel

Emmanuel's road to healing has begun as he had his first surgery today! The surgery went on very well. It was a quick procedure. The back of the foot was cut to release the club and has been moved into the correct position. A cast was been put on in order to maintain the position. Please be praying for Emmanuel during his post operation recovery! Photo of Emmanuel
