"I was scared at first, but when I came to CURE, I was warmly welcomed and counseled," Matilda's mother Maria explained.

Maria had a scan done when she was seven months pregnant. The results showed that her baby had hydrocephalus. After Matilda was born, Maria was immediately referred to the CURE Children's Hospital of Uganda for Matilda's treatment.

"Now that I am here, I have hope and know my daughter will be worked on," Maria told us. As she spoke, she bit her lower lip tightly and closed her eyes to relieve the pain she was going through. Thankfully, her sister is here with her and helping out with Matilda, who has wanted to be rocked nonstop.

Please welcome Matilda and Maria to the CURE family!

Matilda was discharged over the Easter weekend! We didn't get a chance to say goodbye, but the doctor told us she was fine and stable enough to go home. We expected to see them again around the end of this month! Photo of Matilda

Beautiful Matilda is having a peaceful rest after breastfeeding. "Matilda is doing well today. The doctors told me that she is stable enough to be worked on," Maria told us. When asked how she felt about the news, she said, "I am happy and scared at the same time -- my baby is still very little." We encouraged her and prayed with her. Please join us in prayer for baby Matilda and her mother Maria. Photo of Matilda

"Matilda is okay. It's just that jaundice is still disturbing her," one of the nurses told us. "She just needs more time for her liver to fully develop." Matilda has a morning sunbath routine to help. Let's continue to pray that God heals and strengthens them during this time. Photo of Matilda

Deborah is checking Matilda's vitals as Maria observes. "Matilda is slowly getting better. I have left everything in God's hands," Maria spoke with a rather low voice. She seems quite overwhelmed with the whole situation, along with the fact that Matilda is her first child. Please send her encouragement and keep her and Matilda in your prayers. Photo of Matilda

Maria is enjoying juice while she is read to from the Bible as little Matilda slept. They are quite religious and are happy to join the worship in the ward as well. Matilda has jaundice which is delaying her surgery. Please pray for God's miraculous power to touch and heal her. Photo of Matilda

Matilda is having a sunbath this morning. This is to help fight jaundice, which is delaying her surgery. "Here we are doing our best but leaving it all in God's hands. He is working," Maria spoke in a low tone. Maria is doing well though. We met her doing light exercises walking around the hospital compound. Please continue praying for them. Photo of Matilda

Maria (on the left) is concerned about Matilda but grateful that her sister is with her. The doctors just checked on them advising her to give Matilda enough breast milk to help her gain more mass for surgery. Maria could use your prayers of comfort and peace to help her remain calm. Please keep those encouraging messages coming in! Photo of Matilda
