CURE in Uganda

The picture above is of CURE in Uganda. Everyone who serves with CURE in Uganda, from medical professionals to office staff, are dedicated to providing the highest quality medical and spiritual care to people who, without CURE, couldn't find it and couldn't afford it, just like Nuubu. To do that, we're inviting you to partner with us.

We need to raise approximately $1000 to treat children like Nuubu. When you give a gift through Nuubu's CUREkids profile, your contribution will help us continue our work in countries like Uganda. Have more questions? Ask us.

Monthly Giving: Be a Hero!

When you partner with us monthly, we'll send you an email each month to introduce you to a different child who was helped because of your generosity. You can choose to follow their updates and send them get well messages. That means that each year, you're a part of helping 12 different children, beginning with Nuubu. We call it being a CURE Hero!

Got it. Thanks for the explanation.

Little Nuubu is a sweet 5 month old girl who came to CURE Uganda with her mama, Madina. Nuubu has two related neurosurgical issues - hydrocephalus and also an encephlalocele. An encephlalocele is a birth defect where part of a baby's brain pokes out through a hole in their skull. The doctors aren't exactly sure yet, but since Nuubu had the encephlalocele when she was born, they expect that she was also born with hydrocephalus, as well. Thankfully, our amazing neurosurgeons see both these conditions every day, and are well equipped to tackle them both!

Another NGO in Mbale helped to bring Madina and Nuubu to CURE Uganda, and we're so glad that they are here with us! We told Madina that people all over the world will be praying for them. She's happy to be here at CURE, and thankful for all the prayers. Nuubu's family live in eastern Uganda, and her father is a builder, while mama Madina farms at their home. We are looking forward to getting to know Madina and Nuubu during their stay with us at CURE Uganda, and thank you for praying for them and their family!

Nuubu and Madina have headed home! The doctors and neurosurgeons gave them the all-clear to be discharged, and they started their journey home this morning. We'll see them again in January, at one of our mobile clinics, for their next check-up appointment. Thank you for the get-well messages and prayers!

Madina and Nuubu are doing really well! They're spending time with some of the other moms and babies at CURE Uganda this week, and Nuubu is calm and happy. Today, she had her bandage removed from the surgical site (on the back of her head) and it's healing up nicely. It's so amazing how God designed our bodies! Nuubu should be cleared to head home soon. Thank you for praying for her and her family! Photo of Nuubu

Nuubu had her surgery! Neurosurgeons Dr. Onen and Dr. Jo Ling worked together to remove her encephlalocele. After recovering in the ICU, she is now back on the main ward with Madina and doing great. She is such a sweet and smiley baby! Photo of Nuubu

Nuubu had a quiet weekend with Madina, and today, she is getting her second surgery! The neurosurgeons will remove her encephlalocele from the back of her head. This morning, she was very alert and happy. After visiting with the doctors during morning rounds, she 'helped' Madina out with some of their laundry! Please continue to pray for Nuubu and her recovery. Photo of Nuubu

Nuubu is back at CURE Uganda! She's returned for her second surgery to treat the encephlalocele at the back of her head. We were so glad to see her again! She's looking very alert and was smiley and interactive while waiting to see the doctors. Today, the clinical officers will get her all set with the blood tests and scans she needs before surgery. Thank you for praying for her and Madina as they await surgery number two! Photo of Nuubu

Nuubu and mama Madina are heading home today! The doctors visited during morning rounds, and let Madina know that since Nuubu is recovering well from her first surgery, it's ok for them to head home. They'll come back to CURE Uganda in a month, and Nuubu can have her second surgery for her encephlalocele then. We're glad she'll have some time to continue resting and recovering with her family at home! Thank you for praying for this sweet little girl and her family today! Photo of Nuubu

Nuubu's surgery went very well, and she spent the night recovering in the ICU. This morning, the doctors and surgeons said she and mama Madina could move back to the main ward! She'd had a few tears this morning, but her mama was right there to give her some good snuggles and help her feel better! We're hoping that they'll have a peaceful weekend resting on the ward as Nuubu continues to heal. Because she also has a small encephlalocele on the back of her head, she'll probably need another surgery in the future, but for now the surgeons want her to focus on getting better from her first procedure! Little Nuubu had her surgery today! Visiting neurosurgeon Dr. Isaiah from Ethiopia performed her ETV/CPC, with guidance and assistance from CURE Uganda neurosurgeon Dr. Onen. Because CURE Uganda is one of the best places in the world for this type of neurosurgery, we often have visiting neurosurgeons come train with us through the CURE Neuro fellowship program. Dr. Isaiah is already a highly skilled neurosurgeon, and is learning the specifics of the ETV/CPC procedure while he's here with us. This surgery both creates a small hole for the cerebrospinal fluid to flow more freely, and cauterizes a part of the baby's brain that is producing too much fluid. Baby Nuubu's surgery went really well, and she's resting now in the ICU with mama Madina close by. We encouraged Madina before the surgery that people were praying for them, and she's very thankful, and asks that you all continue praying! Thank you so much for lifting up this little family to Jesus. Photo of Nuubu

Little Nuubu was having a nap today after lunch time! She and mama Madina are staying in the patient hostel and getting settled in. Yesterday, Dr. Micheal gave Nuubu a CSF tap, and removed a small amount of her cerebrospinal fluid and sent it to the lab for analysis. The CURE Uganda doctors will review Nuubu's CT scan and test results and make a plan for the surgery that she needs. Thank you for praying for her and mama Madina! Photo of Nuubu
