“After my C-section I was completely down for five days. I never saw my baby until the fifth day and he was in ICU in an incubator. I cried so much,” Oliver, mom to baby Oliver, said.

During her pregnancy, Oliver had no Idea that the baby she was carrying had hydrocephalus. However, one month before her expected date she started having abdominal pain. Her husband advised her to visit a doctor who ordered that an ultrasound be done. After reviewing the scan, her doctors advised that she have a C-section immediately. Baby Oliver was eventually born but was malnourished, was weighing just a few kilograms, and he had hydrocephalus.

They stayed in the hospital until Oliver got stronger, then they went to a private clinic seeking treatment for their baby. However, most local hospitals can’t handle his condition, yet they wanted to get money out of Oliver. One of the nurses at the private clinic quietly advised Oliver to bring her baby to CURE Uganda for surgery which she did. Oliver, who is a hair dresser and her husband Peter who is a businessman then decided to immediately bring their first child to CURE Uganda. Oliver has been admitted and the doctors are making a plan for his surgery. Please be praying for him.

Today Oliver went in for an ETV/CPC procedure, which was successful, and he has been transferred to ICU. Mama Oliver spent time in the activity room painting her nails and chatting with other mothers. She said that helped to distract her from thinking about baby Oliver who was in the Operating room. “I get very worried, so I needed to be busy” she said. Her husband called and informed her that he is praying and thinking about them while he is at work. Please join them in praying for a successful recovery and stability while he is in ICU. “Oliver has gained more weight than when we came to this hospital” mama Oliver says. He is now 4.6 kilometers compare to 4.2 kilos when he had just arrived. His mother regularly feeds him with both baby formula and milk and also spends time chatting with fellow moms in the ward. He is being closely monitored and will be in surgery as soon as he is stronger. Please remember him in your prayers. Photo of Oliver
