CURE in Uganda

The picture above is of CURE in Uganda. Everyone who serves with CURE in Uganda, from medical professionals to office staff, are dedicated to providing the highest quality medical and spiritual care to people who, without CURE, couldn't find it and couldn't afford it, just like Denis. To do that, we're inviting you to partner with us.

We need to raise approximately $1000 to treat children like Denis. When you give a gift through Denis's CUREkids profile, your contribution will help us continue our work in countries like Uganda. Have more questions? Ask us.

Monthly Giving: Be a Hero!

When you partner with us monthly, we'll send you an email each month to introduce you to a different child who was helped because of your generosity. You can choose to follow their updates and send them get well messages. That means that each year, you're a part of helping 12 different children, beginning with Denis. We call it being a CURE Hero!

Got it. Thanks for the explanation.

“Denis is a strong boy, and I am sure that after surgery he will be able to sit and eventually walk. It is just his head which is too heavy for his neck to carry,” Florence says. He developed hydrocephalus when he was three months old and before he was ever taken to a hospital, Florence took him to her church and he was prayed for. Other folks in her village tried to convince her that it was spirits that had possessed her baby and that she should visit a witchdoctor, but she didn’t. Denis was taken to Mulago National Referral Hospital, Katalemwa hospital, then eventually CURE Uganda. Florence says that Denis is very close with his siblings, mostly her firstborn who is now 15 years old, so she is able to leave him with his siblings and head to her farm. Her husband is a driver and is mostly on the road and he is supportive. Now that Florence and Denis are at CURE Uganda, the other four children are being cared for by their grandmother. Please join us in praying for Denis' healing and for their family back home.

“We hope to go home,” said Florence. During the night, Denis had a spike of fever so his doctors ran blood work this morning. The blood work came back good so he is going home! During his time at CURE Uganda, Denis earned the title “Denis the Smiling Machine” from his nurse Ruth who has taken care of him in both the ward and the ICU. Today, Denis and his neighbor exchanged waves. When he would wave back, he would get cheers from the mothers in his section. Please be praying for Denis that he will continue to recover well and won’t need anymore operations. Photo of Denis

“I told Robert (Denis' father) they operated on Denis and he has come back fine. Robert was very happy,” said Florence. She continued, “I am happy because now the baby is able to eat.” Denis had a good night in the ICU and is being transferred to the ward this morning. “My prayer request is that Denis will become fully well,” said Florence. “I am worried, but trusting God and praying. I'm praying that God may pass through the surgeons to operate on Denis well,” said Florence, Denis' mom. Denis is currently in surgery. Dr. Justin and Dr. Jacob are performing an ETV/CPC and once the operation is complete, Denis will recover in the PACU before being transferred to the ICU where he will spend the night. Please be praying for Denis to have a successful operation! Photo of Denis

“My prayer is that Denis has a successful surgery. I pray that God strengthens his neck so that he can support his head, so that he can sit and walk. I am very happy that we are here because there are very good services; the nurses are kind and caring, food is good yet at no cost,” Florence said. Denis has had his CSF tapped, blood tests have been run and other preparations are being made for his surgery. Please keep Denis and his family in your prayers! Photo of Denis
