CURE in Uganda

The picture above is of CURE in Uganda. Everyone who serves with CURE in Uganda, from medical professionals to office staff, are dedicated to providing the highest quality medical and spiritual care to people who, without CURE, couldn't find it and couldn't afford it, just like Linet. To do that, we're inviting you to partner with us.

We need to raise approximately $1000 to treat children like Linet. When you give a gift through Linet's CUREkids profile, your contribution will help us continue our work in countries like Uganda. Have more questions? Ask us.

Monthly Giving: Be a Hero!

When you partner with us monthly, we'll send you an email each month to introduce you to a different child who was helped because of your generosity. You can choose to follow their updates and send them get well messages. That means that each year, you're a part of helping 12 different children, beginning with Linet. We call it being a CURE Hero!

Got it. Thanks for the explanation.

Linet's Story

“The hardest part since Linet fell sick was watching her head increase in size, and I knew that she could be treated at CURE Hospital but didn’t have the money to get here,” says Joyce. Joyce had been married, but her husband left her for another woman when she was pregnant with their third child Linet. She moved back home to live with her parents but her mom advised her to go back and live with her ex-husband’s family, which she did. Her mother-in-law was very supportive and could give her a little money to contribute to the education of the two older kids, to feed the family, and treatment for Linet. After moving with Linet through two different hospitals Linet was referred to CURE Hospital, but being a peasant farmer who doesn’t earn much, and also being a single mother with two children in school, it was difficult for her mother-in-law to come by the money for transport. Fortunately an NGO identified Linet and they too knew about CURE Hospital so in no time, Linet was brought here and is being prepared for surgery. Please join us in the prayer and support of Linet’s surgery!

“She is fine but the wound is the one disturbing her,” said Joyce. They returned to CURE because her surgical site was deteriorating. Joyce has been taught how to dress the wound site and Linet has been given treatment so they are heading back home today. “There is a change before surgery, she was not crawling but now she is crawling,” said Joyce. Linet seemed a little irritated due to the surgical site but other wise is doing fine. Please keep Linet in your prayers that the surgical site will heal quickly. Photo of Linet

Linet was discharged yesterday but they are going home today. Joyce says they are both doing well and she is happy that they are going home. She shared her prayer request saying, “I feel a little weak, not feeling strong. And pray for a safe journey (home) and the baby to get better." Before they went home, they received three of your get well messages which Joyce was very thankful for. We will see her again in a month when she returns to the hospital for her follow up appointment, please continue praying for her! Photo of Linet

“I’m really so happy about it because they operated on the child and she is okay," said Joyce. Linet spent the night in the ICU and this morning, she is back to her normal self and wanting to escape her crib! During the night she got sick once which is common, her doctors are not concerned about it and are transferring her back to the ward. After meeting with Immaculate yesterday, Joyce has begun praying again, “Praying for her to be well,” said Joyce. Please join Joyce in praying for Linet to make a swift recovery! Photo of Linet

“I have no option but to be confident,” said Joyce. Yesterday, Linet was all smiles but today was a different story. She was unable to eat due to her surgery and Linet was annoyed all morning because of her hunger. Joyce carried her on her back, bouncing her up and down in an attempt to keep her from crying. Dr. Peter and Dr. Noah performed an ETV/CPC this morning, and now Linet is currently recovering in the PACU and will shortly be reunited with Joyce in the ICU. Joyce called Immaculate from the Spiritual Center to pray for her, “I lead her to the Lord,” said Immaculate. Joyce added, “I will recommit my life to the Lord." Please be praying for LInet to make a swift recovery and for Joyce's faith to grow and for her to be strong in her commitment to the Lord. Photo of Linet

Before lunch today, Joyce and Linet were in the activity room with Immaculate from the Spiritual Department. Linet played with some toys while Joyce learned how to put a puzzle together. She said that she has been thinking a lot about her kids back at home but hasn’t been able to reach her mother-in-law yet. “I’ve just been missing them and wondering if they are studying, but I know that they are in good hands,” she said. This week, Linet will have surgery for hydrocephalus. Please keep her in your prayers. Photo of Linet
