Geofrey is ten days old today, he was only healthy for his first two days of life, then he became ill and his head has been rapidly increasing ever since. When his mother Zulaika noticed that his head was increasing, she took him to Nsambya hospital, a missionary hospital, which eventually referred him to CURE Uganda for specialized surgery. Back at home, Geofrey has five siblings, they are all healthy and in school. Now with six children, Zulaika says she is tired of giving birth and wants to now focus on raising the children. She is a housewife and her husband Geofrey, whom baby Geofrey shares a name with is a businessman. Before Zulaika got married, she was a Muslim but gave her life to Christ when she married Geofrey. She now says that she has learned to pray and has been praying for Geofrey. Please join us and support baby Geofrey’s surgery and pray that Zulaika will continue to grow in her faith during her stay with us!
“I’m looking forward to going home because I left my kids at home,” said Zulaika. This morning, Zulaika was told they could go back home which made her very happy. Yesterday, Geofrey had a seizure so he has been prescribed anticonvulsants. “My expectations were met and I’m happy with the hospital,” said Zulaika and she continued, “I have high hopes in the child after the surgery, I’m even gaining more hope the child will be okay,” said Zulaika. We will see them back at CURE in a little over a month, please continue to pray for Geofrey that he will recover well and need no future operations.
“What is good - they pray for you and encourage you,” said Zulaika about her time meeting with our hospital’s pastors. Yesterday’s operation was successful, Dr. Justin performed an irrigation of the ventricles, rinsing out bloody cerebrospinal fluid until it was clear. At this point Geofrey’s doctors are unsure if he will need another operation so they will observe the growth of Geofrey’s head closely, if there are signs of his head increasing abnormally quickly then they will most likely operate again. “My prayer request is my child will stay okay, I really don’t want a second operation,” said Zulaika.
“My husband and family are aware that Geofrey has been scheduled for surgery and they praying for him,” Zulaika said. She has been at CURE Hospital for three days now and says that she is comfortable and enjoys the devotions. Please join us in praying for Geofrey and his upcoming surgery!
