“I thought it was something simple, that it was just a small wound that would be treated before we got home, but then the doctor referred us here to CURE Uganda. We got here and we were told the gravity of the matter,” said Phina, Rashid's mother. She immediately called her boyfriend, after who Rashid is named, and when he got to the hospital he says, "I was shocked and confused because we expected our first born to be a healthy baby.” Phina told us that she has really lost hope and isn’t sure if God really cares. She told us, “Whether I pray or not, it’s the same thing. Nothing will change.” However, Phina said that she wants to have two more children. Back at home, Rashid owns a small restaurant and Phina is a housewife. Phina, however, has been educated about spina bifida by one of our nurses, Helen. She says that the education has helped her to learn how best to care for Rashid. Please join us in prayer and support for baby Rashid’s surgery.
Rashid went home on Sunday and they will return to CURE in the middle of March for a follow up appointment. Please keep Rashid and Phina in your prayers!
“It was a perfect closure,” said Dr. Michael, who assisted Dr. Justin in closing Rashid’s back yesterday. Phina says, “Rashid will be fine on the back, but they told me his head may also need surgery.” She also said she is hoping that Rashid’s head doesn’t increase in size. Later on today, baby Rashid will be transferred to the ward. Please keep him in your prayers.
This morning, Pastor Winnie had time to speak to Phina about Christ and about hope. She prayed with Phina, and Phina gave her life to Christ. “I feel okay. Am strong,” said Phina about Rashid’s surgery today. Her family back at home is aware too about Rashid’s surgery and although they can’t physically make it to CURE to be with Phina, they are praying with her and Rashid. We are thankful that not only does she have family prayer support but that she has your prayer support too!
“The nurses and doctors are taking good care of us. Everyday, they clean Rashid’s wound and dress it”, said Phina. Dad Rashid spent the night here at CURE then returned home after lunch. He helped with the laundry this morning while Phina nursed baby Rashid. Phina says, “Yesterday, I prayed for healing during the devotions in the ward.” Pastor Winnie from our spiritual team plans to meet with Phina tomorrow to council her. Please remember them in your prayers today!
"We were told that he will be operated today or tomorrow, so we are waiting," Phina said. Today, however, Rashid came to visit. He hadn't visited since they were admitted last Saturday but got time to be here today. Please remember baby Rashid in your prayers as they prepare him for surgery.
