CURE in Uganda

The picture above is of CURE in Uganda. Everyone who serves with CURE in Uganda, from medical professionals to office staff, are dedicated to providing the highest quality medical and spiritual care to people who, without CURE, couldn't find it and couldn't afford it, just like Wabwire. To do that, we're inviting you to partner with us.

We need to raise approximately $1000 to treat children like Wabwire. When you give a gift through Wabwire's CUREkids profile, your contribution will help us continue our work in countries like Uganda. Have more questions? Ask us.

Monthly Giving: Be a Hero!

When you partner with us monthly, we'll send you an email each month to introduce you to a different child who was helped because of your generosity. You can choose to follow their updates and send them get well messages. That means that each year, you're a part of helping 12 different children, beginning with Wabwire. We call it being a CURE Hero!

Got it. Thanks for the explanation.

“Before I married I was a Christian but I converted to Islam after marriage. However, when Wabwire fell ill, I decided to go back to church and pray because I still had my faith and my husband supported me too,” shared Hadijah. Wabwire started falling ill just after birth, but his mother had seen a child with hydrocephalus before though she didn’t know where or whether the condition could be treated. When she took Wabwire to a hospital he was first treated for pneumonia but he didn’t improve much so a doctor referred him to CURE. “Before I came here I was very depressed and worried, but when I got here and saw other children being treated of the same condition I just handed over Wabwire to God,” Hadijah says. She and her husband are peasant farmers back at home, they grow rice and maize mostly and they have eight children together. Hadijah says that all her kids are really close and they love and care about Wabwire a lot. She says that if God heals Wabwire, she would like him to study and have a good life in future.

“I am happy about going home, my only worry is the baby feels pain but I am happy,” said Hadijah. After being told they could go home, Hadijah spent the morning washing and packing. Prior to leaving they received five get well messages which made her very happy! Hadijah's prayer request is for Wabwire and all her children to be healthy. We will see them for Wabwire's follow up appointment in the middle of February. Photo of Wabwire

“My baby will not be laughed at anymore because he is now being treated. I thank God for healing him and I thank all the people who are praying and supporting us,” said Hadijah. She also told us that she will be teaching other moms about hydrocephalus and spina bifida when she returns home. Her husband called her last evening because he was curious to know how Wabwire is doing and he pleased that there is an improvement in his condition. Please continue to pray with them!

“The prayer request I have is for the baby to be fine and for my state to have strength and courage,” said Hadijah. Wabwire spent the night in the ICU. He was having fevers and crying but his fever has gone down and he is less irritable today. His doctors don’t have any major concerns so they are transferring him back to the ward. “I have seen changes, I have seen the child improve. The condition is better than he was from home,” said Hadijah. Hadijah received some encouragement today from two get well messages that told Hadijah that she and Wabwire were being prayed for. Please keep Wabwire in your prayers that he will continue to recover from his operation. Photo of Wabwire

“I’m feeling good and I’m excited and happy,” said Hadijah. Wabwire had surgery today where Dr. Justin performed a septostomy and placed a shunt. During the operation Hadijah was very worried so she went to the chapel and prayed for the surgery to go well. Hadijah is now in the ICU holding Wabwire. Please keep him in your prayers that he will recover well from his operation and for it to be a success. Photo of Wabwire

“The doctors told me that they will review his CT scan and let me know their next plan,” Hadijah said. She has been at CURE since Saturday and she says that she hasn’t encountered any problems here. She is in touch with her family back at home and they are praying for Wabwire to get well. Please stand with Wabwire and his family in prayer during this time! Photo of Wabwire
