“When I got married to my husband Timothy, it took me eight years to conceive and give birth to Maureen, so I know that she is a miracle from God and I have put this current situation (Maureen’s tumor) into God’s hands,” said Betty. Maureen fell when she was three months old and her health deteriorated for the first three years, but she later stabilized and started school. She is in middle class and her performance in class is good. “She is also very playful and she likes teaching her younger brother Lokiru what she has learnt in class,” Betty told us. A couple of months back, just before Maureen broke off from school after second term, she started complaining of headaches. She would lose her stamina when standing up and was staggering when walking. Maureen even did her exams while she was ill. The hospital that she was first taken to was a small hospital without good facilities, so her parents, Betty and Timothy, decided to take her to a bigger hospital where a specialist examined Maureen and referred her to CURE Hospital. Maureen has been at CURE for a week now and she is already missing her brother a lot, so she told her mom Betty to bring him over to CURE too so he may be coming to visit soon. Back at home, Betty’s husband Timothy is taking care of their two year old son Lokiru while still having to go to work. Timothy is a nurse and Betty is a storekeeper. Maureen and her Betty traveled 170 miles from their home in Kabong district to CURE Hospital seeking help for her condition. Kindly stand with them in prayer as our doctors start Maureen's treatment process!

“It was just through prayer that it was a successful operation,” said Betty. This morning they were told they could go home but Betty seemed to have mixed feelings about going home because Maureen is still weak. Betty and Maureen got a couple of get well cards before they left which encouraged Betty. Another encouragement to Betty has been the Bible, “The Bible has been comforting me a lot,” said Betty. Before departing the hospital Betty shared her pray requests, “They can pray for her well being and for her to get back to her normal self,” shared Betty. Photo of Maureen

“Everyday I notice an improvement in her. At least she can mention some words of what she wants,” said Betty. Sam has continued to work with Maureen. They met twice today, working on balance, standing, and strengthening her. Maureen seems to be gaining strength and is able to move her arms more than previous days. She impressed Sam with her leg strength. Please continue to pray for Maureen to continue improving! Photo of Maureen

Today is the fourth day post operation and Maureen is slowly recovering. She has been battling fevers but they seem to have dissipated. Today she began physical therapy with Sam. “I believe in a few days she should be up there. We are working on the weak side, getting her to stand, getting her to walk," said our physiotherapist Sam. Sam is hopeful that by the time they leave the hospital Maureen will be walking again. Today she was able to stand with support which was an encouragement to Betty. Please be praying for Maureen to continue to recover well and swiftly from her operation. Photo of Maureen

“Today I am in prayers. I ask all her friends out there to pray that the surgery is successful and that there won’t be any complications thereafter,” requested Betty. Maureen is currently in surgery for a craniotomy and tumor resection. She is Dr. Justin’s and Dr. Kerry’s only case today because her surgery will last the whole day. Once the procedure is finished, she will be moved to the ICU where she will spend several days. Please be standing in prayer with us and with Betty for the surgery to be successful and for her to recover fully from the operation. Photo of Maureen

Maureen was scheduled for surgery today however, she was removed from today’s list, she may have surgery tomorrow. She was given an NPO at midnight in preparation for the surgery, but after her operation was canceled she was able to have breakfast at around 9:30. Maureen is very tired today, a mixture of not eating, poor sleep, and the medication she has been given. Maureen has been complaining of headaches so her doctors have placed her on pain relievers to make her more comfortable. This morning Betty’s pastor called her she told him to be praying for them. Please join them in praying for Maureen's upcoming operation to be successful. Photo of Maureen

Last night, Maureen was complaining of a headache, so one of our nurses gave her pain killers and kept monitoring her. When she woke up, she was feeling some relief and after breakfast she decided to color some pictures which is one of her favorite activities in school. We learned that her two favorite animals are puppies and zebras. Tomorrow is the day Maureen has been scheduled for surgery. Please be praying for her! Photo of Maureen

“Yesterday she spoke to Lokiru (Maureen’s brother) and her father. She told her father to bring Lokiru to CURE for a visit,” said Betty. This morning, Betty spent part of her time knitting, while Maureen played with a doll that was given to her by pastor Winnie from the Spiritual Department. Our doctors have scheduled her surgery for this Thursday and Betty says she has enough time to pray to God. Please stand with Betty and Maureen in prayer. Photo of Maureen

“I have already started to notice some change even before the surgery. She is no longer staggering when she walks. I have put everything into God’s hands”, said Betty. Maureen has a rash on her head which the doctors are first treating before she can have surgery to remove the tumor. When she is tired of being in the ward she enjoys spending time in the hospital playroom. Please be praying for her as she awaits surgery! Photo of Maureen
