"When I pray, I pray for God to have mercy on my daughter, Grace. I hope that she will be healed", said Deborah.

Grace was born prematurely and was incubated for five weeks, but then her former doctor noticed an increase in the size of her head and decided to refer her to CURE and they even offered her a ride here. Deborah traveled with a team from her former hospital and when they arrived, Grace was taken straight to ICU. Back at home, Deborah has one other child who she left under the care of her grandmother. Deborah’s husband is a boda boda taxi driver and he is struggling financially so he hasn’t been able to support Deborah and Grace so much yet and Deborah has already spent the little savings that she had. Deborah hasn’t spoken to her family because she doesn’t have a phone, but she managed to get a hold of her husband and he is aware of the situation here at CURE. Please join us in praying for Grace's healing and for her family as they support each other with what they have.

Grace went into surgery for an ETV/CPC redo with the possibility of a shunt. It was decided that a shunt would work best, so one was placed. Grace is currently in the ICU recovering and she is being warmed after the surgery because she had become very cold. Please keep Grace in your prayers, that she will have a full and quick recovery. Please keep Grace in your prayers, that she and her mom will be able to go home this weekend, and for her to have no further problems. Photo of Grace

Grace had a successful surgery where our doctors performed an ETV/CPC. Deborah has already noticed some change in the size of Grace’s head, it is decreasing and she is happy about it. Her only worry is that they are still in ICU, but she has hope that they will be out of ICU soon. Please keep praying for Grace and Deborah! Photo of Grace

Good things are happening with Grace! This morning, she was discharged from ICU and has been settling into the ward. Deborah is very excited about this and is praying that everything stays on the upside. This morning she spent some time plaiting another mom’s hair, chatting with friends just outside the ICU and reading the Bible. Please keep praying for Grace and Deborah. Photo of Grace

Today, Deborah helped the spiritual team to interpret the pastors message to the other moms in the ward and she says she enjoyed it. Deborah has also been elevated to be the new ward mom taking over from her friend Irene and she believes she will be able to handle the responsibility. As for Grace, everything is looking good, today is her third day without the oxygen mask on and she is feeding both through the NG tube and nursing and we hope things stay that way and only get better. Please keep those prayers coming. Photo of Grace

This morning Deborah woke up early to say goodbye to her friend Irene who was allowed to go home. Deborah is a little sad to see her go. Grace is doing all right, she is still in the ICU, but her feeding is improving, and her doctors are still monitoring her for oxygen desaturation. This morning Deborah attended the church service in the ward and has spent the day with Grace in ICU and with other mothers sitting out side the ward. Please pray that Grace will be able to breathe without the assistance of her oxygen mask and be scheduled for surgery. Photo of Grace

Grace is stable but still having problems with oxygen desaturation so she still needs to be in the ICU. She has started nursing a little but she continues to be fed primarily through her NG tube. Deborah is a little under the weather with the flu. She has become good friends with Irene whose daughter Sylvia is also a patient at the hospital, they spend a lot time together encouraging one another. Before coming to CURE, Deborah had grown away from Christ, but since being here she has been reading her Bible frequently and can feel her heart changing. One of the verses she has been leaning on is James 5:13-15: "Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing psalms. Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven." Photo of Grace

There has been no major change in Grace’s state, the only thing keeping her in the ICU is oxygen dependence and once she can breathe without the mask she will be moved into the ward. Deborah said she is doing fine because Grace is stable. This afternoon she spent time in the garden behind the ICU with her friend Irene and her daughter Sylvia, laughing and sharing stories. Deborah had her Bible and shared with them verses out of Psalms which was an encouragement to Irene. Please keep Grace in your prayers that she will soon be able to breathe without the assistance of a mask. Photo of Grace

Grace’s doctor is happy because she is making progress. She continues to be on and off oxygen, however she is crying less, nursing a little, and playing more which makes Deborah happy. Grace will stay in the ICU until she can breathe without the assistance of an oxygen mask. Please continue to pray for Grace that she will soon be able to breathe on her own and she can be moved out of ICU and into the ward. Photo of Grace

Grace has doubled her weight since when she was first admitted. She only weighed 1.1 kilograms (2.4 pounds) and today she weighs 2.2 kilograms (4.8 pounds). It’s not all good news because some of the weight can be attributed to her hydrocephalus, but she is certainly getting better. She is still in the ICU, on and off of oxygen and Deborah continues to feed her through her NG tube. Deborah says that both of them are doing fine. Please keep Grace in your prayers that she will soon be able to be taken off oxygen and be able to take food orally. Photo of Grace

Deborah is happy today because Grace is doing much better. She says that when Grace’s condition deteriorates she is usually low, but today she is happy and lively and spent some time chatting with other mothers outside ICU. Grace is still being fed through her NG tube and is being weighed daily. Please continue to pray for baby Grace. Photo of Grace

According to Deborah, she gave her daughter the name Grace because she believes that it is the Grace of God that has sustained her. Grace is still being fed through a NG tube after every two or three hours and is weighed daily. When she gets to the right weight, then the doctors will make a plan for her surgery. Please continue to pray for her. Photo of Grace

Grace finished her blood transfusion last night and she has been sleeping ever since then. Her mother Deborah spent some time feeding Grace through her NG tube, had devotions with other moms in the ward, then she did some laundry. Keep those Get Well messages coming to Grace as they are such an encouragement to Deborah too, please keep her in your prayers too! Photo of Grace

Grace will not have surgery for a while because she is still very weak and anaemic and is receiving blood transfusions. Deborah is aware of all this, but she told us that she is strong and patiently waiting. Her main goal is to return home with a healthy baby. Please keep them in your prayers. Photo of Grace
