“I am here at Tebow CURE because I want to walk!” Frankie shares.
Franken or lovingly called as Frankie by family and friends is a three year old kid who loves to play with cars. He was born with cerebral palsy, a condition affecting one’s ability to move and maintain balance. In his case, Frankie walks using his tiptoes and couldn’t take a step without someone or something to hold on to.
“We didn’t know about his condition beforehand. We started noticing it when he was about two years old. He still couldn’t stand on his own unlike other toddlers his age who started walking already,” Jenilyn, Frankie’s grandmother and caretaker recounts. “We tried to massage his feet hoping that it would help strengthen his muscles but it was to no avail. We went to a local hospital where Frankie was seen by a doctor and was diagnosed with diplegia, a type of cerebral palsy affecting both his feet. He told us Frankie needed surgery but we were disheartened when we learned it would cost around ₱100,000 (≈$2,000). While his parents are full time employees at the local supermarket in Davao City, they are just minimum wage earners and couldn’t afford treatment,” Jenilyn tells us about their predicament.
“Thankfully, someone told us that there’s a hospital located in Davao City that could help our grandson. Even though it’s a bit far from where we live, we ventured into going here and that’s why we are here at Tebow CURE. I’m really grateful that God led us here and my wish for my grandson to walk will finally be answered,” Jenilyn shares with hope and optimism.
Thanks to your support and partnership, the word about Tebow CURE is reaching more people, giving kids like Frankie a chance at healing and transformation! Thank you!
Latest Updates
Frankie finally had his “shoes” or casts removed in the clinic today! He shed some tears as the buzzing sound of the cast cutter terrified him, but we are proud of him for being such a tough cookie. He then washed his feet to get rid of some debris and proceeded to physical therapy where he practiced walking! We thank God for his progress, and we will see him again in six weeks!
Frankie was super cranky last night due to the discomfort he’s experiencing at his surgery site. It was understandable since it’s only been a few hours since he had surgery. He was back to his cheerful self when he woke up this morning! He showed us his cool green casts which he calls “boots”! “I will have to wear this until my foot no longer bleeds! Soon enough, I will run fast like (Grandpa) Buboy!” he told us.
We gave him some medication to bring home and bade him goodbye! Please keep praying for his speedy recovery!
Franken was the first one to go down to the OR this morning. He was given a special medicine to make him sleep soundly while the surgery is ongoing and he was connected to tubes and machines that would monitor his breathing. The medical team worked on lengthening the calf muscles on both of Frankie’s legs to release the contracture and hopefully addressing his toe walking. The procedure was pretty straightforward and his surgery was done in no time! Thank you for giving Franken the gift of healing through your support and prayers!
