“I am in ninth grade and I want to finish my studies so I can be a engineer someday,” Antonio tells us.

Antonio is the second born of Nenita and Antonio Jr. His favorite pastime involves watching TV and helping out his Dad on the farm the farm. Antonio has three other siblings namely Antonette, Angel, and Anton John. What makes Antonio unique from his siblings is that he was born with a cleft lip and palate. “Actually, I gave birth to twins." Nenita tells us. "The midwife broke the news that Antonio had a cleft lip and palate and his twin didn’t survive. Right when I saw and held him, I immediately accepted and loved him.”

Antonio’s family brought him to a hospital when he was two years old and were able to gather enough money to get him a cleft lip repair surgery. While his lip was treated, his cleft palate never received surgery due to lack of financial resources since Antonio Jr. only gets minimum wage from working as a farmer. Growing up, Antonio has been a victim of bullying and hurtful words from other kids. “It breaks my heart as a mother when he has to go through these things. I always make sure to make him feel as though he is just like the rest of the kids. I also encourage him that his disability is not a hindrance for him to reach his goals and become successful,” Nenita tells us.

“We were so thankful when we learned about the opportunity for Antonio’s treatment at Tebow CURE through one of my daughter’s friends. Our long time prayer has been finally answered!” Nenita tells shares with a sense of excitement and renewed hope. Join Antonio as he embarks on a journey to physical and spiritual healing!

Antonio had a quick visit to the hospital to have his lip sutures removed. He’s still on a soft diet which means he only gets to eat and drink clear broth and liquid until his palate fully heals. On the bright side, he will only have to wait for two more weeks to be able to get back to eating any food he wants! We thank God for his progress and we will see him again in three months! Antonio has been feeling a bit sore which is understandable after having surgery. Child Mentor Patricia spent some time lifting his spirits up and shared with him the hope and healing Christ offers. Although he’s had difficulty speaking, Antonio took the time to respond in faith through prayer. He thanked God for his successful surgery and lifted up his life and the discomfort he’s been experiencing as well. Once he felt a little better, the doctors discharged him so he could rest comfortably at home. Please continue to pray for Antonio’s speedy recovery! Photo of Antonio

Antonio was the first one to be wheeled down the OR. He was ready as can be and told us that he “didn’t feel nervous at all!” “May Antonio be still and know that You are God,” was Patient Coordinator Mary Ann’s prayer right before the surgery started. The procedure involved closing up Antonio’s palate and some repairs on his nose and lip to further improve the symmetry of his facial features! Although it took some time, Nenita was relieved when she saw Antonio in the recovery room! Thank you for praying! Photo of Antonio

Join us in welcoming Antonio! He travelled last week so he can have his COVID-19 test done over the weekend prior to his admission. This is done as part of our measures to mitigate the spread of the virus and to ensure that our patients are healthy and fit for surgery. Since he lives far away from Tebow CURE, he and Nenita were given a place to stay with our partner organization Seeds of Dignity. Although he’s been through a long process, he is finally admitted in the ward! Please pray that everything will go well as Antonio goes down the OR and that he will experience God’s love and healing during his stay with us! Photo of Antonio
