“I just hope that Jenser will be able to reach his dreams and that his disability will not hinder him from succeeding in life,” Jo Ann shares. Jo Ann's dream for her son is one shared by parents worldwide, but unlike most children Jenser was born with a very rare disability. Jenser was born without kneecaps. “He was doing just fine growing up but we noticed that the deformity in his right leg worsened 3 or 4 years ago. We are not exactly sure what caused this but we suspect that Jenser might have slipped while playing,” Jo Ann tells us. Jenser was brought to medical specialists and was only advised to do some physical therapy exercises. However, this did not address his worsening condition. “I am not able to run, play basketball, and participate in some of the school activities. I also get bullied and called “piang” (cripple),” Jenser tells us.
Thankfully, Jo Ann learned about Tebow CURE through one of her friends! “I am happy when I was told that something could be done for my son. His quality of life will be improved!” Jo Ann tells us with a smile.
We are glad God has brought Jenser to us and we can't wait to get started on Jenser's healing journey with him!
Jenser came to visit us for a quick follow up! Doctor Jun showed him and Jo Ann his x-ray result and explained to them how his surgical procedure involved stopping the bone growth on one side of his leg. This will hopefully guide his leg inward to its correct alignment. He also explained that they won't be able to see results right away as it would take some time for the bone to heal and grow correctly. “God is good!” Doctor Jun told them, pleased with Jenser’s progress! We will see him again in four months to check on his healing!
We found Jenser resting in the ward after his surgery. During this pandemic, the time we have to spend at the bedside of our patients is limited to avoid possible infection and viral transmission. Most of the time, they are required to go home immediately if they have recovered well, which was the case with Jenser. Though we weren’t able to hang out with him much after surgery, he is glad to let us know that he is feeling so much better. Jenser is even more thankful that he can continue to recover within the comforts of his home.
Jenser first came to Tebow CURE for an initial assessment last month. After a few weeks of waiting, he is now back for admission! He underwent rapid COVID testing together with his mom Jo Ann as part of our measures to mitigate the spread of the virus during this pandemic. After waiting for the results to come out, we were glad to know that they tested negative and they were then admitted in the ward. Jenser spent his time writing down his thoughts about his hospitalization on the patient workbook given by Child Mentor Patricia. He also got to read a verse in one of the pages that says “Give all your worries to God because He cares for you. (1 Peter 5:7)” Please pray that these words will bring peace and assurance to Jenser and Jo Ann as they entrust Jenser’s healing to God and to the medical team who will be performing the surgery. Thank you!
