CURE in Philippines

The picture above is of CURE in Philippines. Everyone who serves with CURE in Philippines, from medical professionals to office staff, are dedicated to providing the highest quality medical and spiritual care to people who, without CURE, couldn't find it and couldn't afford it, just like Darren. To do that, we're inviting you to partner with us.

We need to raise approximately $1000 to treat children like Darren. When you give a gift through Darren's CUREkids profile, your contribution will help us continue our work in countries like Philippines. Have more questions? Ask us.

Monthly Giving: Be a Hero!

When you partner with us monthly, we'll send you an email each month to introduce you to a different child who was helped because of your generosity. You can choose to follow their updates and send them get well messages. That means that each year, you're a part of helping 12 different children, beginning with Darren. We call it being a CURE Hero!

Got it. Thanks for the explanation.

“When I grow up, I want to be a cop so I can help chase down bad guys!” Darren shares.

Even at a young age, he sure does know what he wants and is pretty determined about it! He is currently working hard to make his dream a reality by studying hard as a seventh grader in school. He also has a playful and pleasing personality and loves to play "takyan" with his friends, a game similar to hackysack where players aim to keep the ball from touching the ground.

Being the playful kid that he is, what was only supposed to be “play and fun” led to Darren’s unfortunate accident last December. “I accompanied my husband who works as a coconut wine gatherer in the field when Darren and his brother decided to go with us. We told them to stay put and wait for us but Darren climbed up a coconut tree. We asked him to get down but the next thing we heard was a loud thud. He fell down and fractured his right leg,” Darren's mother Gwen recounts.

Seeking treatment has been a long journey for Darren’s family. From consulting a herbalist to making the trip to Davao City’s public hospital where Darren’s surgeries have been postponed for months, Gwen was close to giving up. “We have been traveling back and forth for the past month but the doctors would keep postponing my son’s surgery due to the number of patients they had. It was frustrating,” she shares. Limping with a splint on his leg and relying on his crutches, Darren’s life was put on hold too. “I couldn’t sleep properly at night. I couldn’t go to school, play, or move around,” Darren shares the struggle he has been experiencing.

Thankfully, Darren’s family was led to Tebow CURE when one of our patient’s mom referred them here! “I feel nervous and happy at the same time that I can finally undergo surgery!” Darren tells us. However, Darren is comforted to know that he has all of you walk alongside him in his fears and hopes for his healing!

It’s been half a year ago since we last saw Darren and it was great seeing him in clinic today! We learned that he’s been busy doing modular distance learning with Mommy Gwen as his teacher. Also, he is now back to playing with no complaints, which is a pretty good news! He is advised to focus on his studies first and will visit us again next year to have the metal implant on his leg removed! Photo of Darren

Darren is back for a follow up and was given the clearance to now start putting some weight on his operated leg. He practiced this with our physical therapy interns by stepping on the weighing scale and aiming to put 20-30% of his weight. We will check on his progress next month! Photo of Darren

"We're on to our last x-ray visit for the day and we are ready to go home!" It sounded like there was no hint of worry in Gwen's words as she expressed her gratitude for Darren's healing. Darren learned to take steps using crutches and got to practice using it on the way to get an X-ray. With him was his new friend, Kian, who was in the same room with him this whole entire time. Darren and Kian have become buddies and will see each other again for their follow-up in a couple of weeks! Photo of Darren

"I'm so nervous! I don't know if I can go in to see him," this were Gwen's thoughts when she found out that Darren's surgery is finally over. It turns out that she has nothing to be nervous about since Darren's procedure went well as expected! We asked Darren to open his eyes in recovery just to make sure that he is awake, and he did—with eyes wide open! We continue to pray for Darren's recovery and encourage Gwen to choose to give her worries to God. Photo of Darren

We first met Darren in clinic last week. After being told the good news that he could be scheduled for surgery, he has now been admitted to the ward! Child Mentor Patricia welcomed him warmly by giving him a stash of biscuits and a workbook where he could process his emotions regarding his upcoming surgery. Darren read a verse in his workbook from 1 Peter 5:7 that says, "Give all your worries to God because He cares for you." Please be praying that everything will go well as Gwen and Darren surrender Darren’s healing to God! Photo of Darren
