“Erron is my youngest child, but he’s not the only one with cleft lip and palate. His big brother Emmanuel has it too. I also had a cleft lip, but I had the opportunity to have surgery when I was six years old, which is why I’m excited to know that they are getting this chance also,” shares Erron’s mom, Rhea.
Erron may just be a toddler but he already experienced staring and bullying from other kids just like his big brother Emmanuel has. Thankfully, he has mom Rhea, who loves and cares for him even though they experience challenges in their community. “I care for him and swing him gently to sleep, too!” Erron’s big brother Emmanuel tells us. “I only hope that one day, Erron and my kids will be able to finish school,” adds Rhea.
Thanks to our partners from the Free to Smile Foundation and people like you who support CURE, Erron with have his cleft lip surgery at our hospital! We wouldn’t be able to share God’s love to kids like Erron without you! Thank you!
We are glad to see Erron this morning for his follow up! Before he was seen by the doctor, he spent time with big brother Emmanuel in the playroom “talking” in the telephone and “driving” his car. Just like Emmanuel, Erron’s sutures look good except there’s a minor part in his lip that opened. He is advised to come back in February for a lip repair. Please pray for Rhea that that even though his sons’ healing might take longer, she will continue to trust God in the process!
We were glad to see Erron hanging outside his room early in the morning today! “He slept late last night because he still wanted to go out,” Grandma Julima told us. Aside from being able to go and stroll around the hospital, he also gets to go home today with his big brother Emmanuel! We will see them again next week for their follow-up appointment!
Erron was first in line to go down to the OR today. While waiting to be sedated, Erron was entertained with a plush toy to distract him from the needle that was inserted into his IV line by one of our friends from Free to Smile Foundation. Not long after, Erron dozed off and Doctor Jason and Doctor David started the procedure. Having both of her kids undergo surgery was not easy for Mom Rhea so Patient Ministry Coordinator Mary Ann prayed with her through her fears and anxiety and encouraged her that if she was able to surpass her surgery, her son can too. The team successfully stitched up Erron’s lip and Mom Rhea felt relieved seeing her son wheeled out of the OR! We wouldn’t have been able to provide surgical help and spiritual support to our patients and their families without your support in what we do!
Erron’s big brother, Emmanuel, is going to have surgery first. So Erron is patiently waiting for his turn and all cuddled up in his big brother’s bed. We got to chat with his mom Rhea and swooned over him as he napped! While Emmanuel gets ready, Erron is not bothered and sound asleep! We pray that Erron experiences God’s comfort as he gets ready for tomorrow’s surgery!
