Lourence is an 8th grader who knows how to have a good time. His favorite sports are basketball and "cell phone gaming" (if you consider that a sport)! He is an outgoing kid who loves spending time with his friends, but a year ago, an unfortunate accident resulted in a broken leg while he was having fun with his friends.
Lourence was cruising around the neighborhood one day, riding on a motorcycle with five of his friends. The road was sloping and slippery, and they lost their balance. Lourence was the only one who got badly injured since the impact hit him hard.
"We admitted him to a local hospital in our city but later decided to go to a quack doctor instead since we do not have the money for surgery," Rogelio told us. He is Lourence's dad and since he works as a farmer, money is tight, and he had to take his son to see someone who may or may not have had adequate medical knowledge. "When we noticed that his condition was not improving, we went to the regional hospital here in Davao City for the hopes of availing affordable surgery but there were still a lot of patients in line for surgery." After many months of waiting and praying for Lourence's surgery, somebody told them about Tebow CURE, which isn't too far a distance from the other hospital.
"I pray that I will be able to walk and play with no difficulty anymore," Lourence told us. Through your partnership in what we do, we get to witness how the Lord will work and answer Lourence's prayer!
Lourence has come a long way in his recovery. “I do not wear my boots anymore!” he told us this good news in the clinic today. However, one of Lourence’s screws in his knee protruded which has been bothering him for quite some time. Doctor Jun did a mini-surgery by putting Lourence in local anesthesia and did a superficial incision. There were some tears, but the screw was removed successfully! Lourence was relieved that it was finally over and was amazed as he saw the size of the screw taken out from his knee. He had it wrapped in plastic and brought it home with him as a souvenir! We will see him again in two weeks to check on his progress.
Today is a day filled with good news and answered prayers for Lourence! He finally had his casts removed and he was advised to visit the x-ray room to check on his bone’s healing. When Doctor Jun saw the imaging result, he told us that “cases like Lourence’s are what I would consider impossible without God’s power. This is a miracle!” Before, he was not able to bend his knee, but it is indeed an answered prayer seeing him with much better range of motion and mobility! He will continue wearing his cast boot to keep him from walking with a limp and continue with his high calcium diet so his bones will grow strong and healthy! We are in awe of what God is doing in the life of Lourence!
This photo of an empty bed means that Lourence was given the green light to go home yesterday! It also means he is already feeling great after his surgery! He brought home some crutches to help him with his balance as his leg heals up. Although we missed him leaving the hospital, we are excited to see him next month to check on his progress and healing!
We were able to hang out with Lourence before he had his surgery today! He was able to hear the story of the lame beggar healed by Peter and John in the name of Jesus. He learned how God was able to do far more than what the lame beggar could ever expect or imagine when he was given healing instead of money. This encouraged Lourence that God could do the same in his life! Soon after, he was wheeled down to the operating room where he was covered in prayer by patient ministry coordinator Mary Ann and the medical staff. To address the length discrepancy of Lourence’s right leg, Doctor Jun drilled the growth plate of his left leg to halt its growth. In this manner, this will allow the other leg to continue growing and catch up with the length of Lourence’s left leg so that he will be able to walk properly eventually! We thank God and all of you for his successful surgery!
Lourence had his first surgery at Tebow CURE early this year to treat his fractured leg, but due to the accident, his legs have length disparity which means one leg is shorter than the other, causing him to limp. Doctor Jun advised for him to undergo another procedure to fix this. We are glad to be able to spend some time with Lourence again, and we ask that you cover him in prayer as he goes to the operating room. Pray that everything will go well!
