“Vroom! Vroom!” Xyrus tells us,.
Xyrus is only knows a few words, but he sure knows how to convey what he loves. “Play! Kids!” He is a bubble of joy and moves non-stop despite him having clubfoot! “Xyrus runs and plays basketball, but he does it barefoot because shoes won’t fit his feet right,” says Xyrus’ mom, Jecelyn.
Having Xyrus as her only child, Jecelyn has been dreaming of Xyrus’ healing since he was born. “When I first saw Xyrus’ foot, I was worried because we don’t have anybody in our family that has clubfoot. We were also not recommended for any treatment. So I prayed that he would not have a hard time in the future with his foot if this is what he’s going to have forever. But I also plead in prayer that God will give him a chance for healing. It wasn’t until I met a pastor who connected us to a mobile clinic that brought us here at Tebow CURE,” Jecelyn tells us.
By giving Xyrus the gift of healing, Jecelyn knew God had heard her prayers for her child. Your support to CURE Philippines is one of God’s ways of telling Jecelyn that He cares about her and Xyrus. “I know that He listens to my prayers,” Jecelyn tells us.
One day, Xyrus will be playing with other kids - running and shooting hoops with proper shoes on his feet! All because of your prayers and support!
The last time we saw Xyrus, he was still not confident enough to stand up and walk. To our surprise, he’s now walking and running fast! He could not keep still and visited the playroom, chapel room, playroom again, and exam rooms! He will still wear his braces during the night in order to keep his feet straight, but we celebrate with him for how far he’s come on his healing journey!
We celebrated with Xyrus as he finally said goodbye to his walking casts today! “The 22 hour bus trip to get here at Tebow CURE was worth it!” Mom Jecelyn told us. Xyrus was fitted with a brace for him to wear as he sleep which will keep his feet from turning in again. Xyrus spent some time adjusting to the feel of his new "shoes” but was back to playing and coloring in the playroom afterwards! He is set to go back home this afternoon and before leaving, we hugged him goodbye. We are already excited to see him again in two months!
“Xyrus really missed the playroom!” Mom Jecelyn told us as Xyrus headed straight to the playroom, reaching for his favorite toy cars! He celebrated his second birthday back home with his family last week and what better gift could he receive than hearing the good news that he will switch from long leg casts to short leg walking casts?! Xyrus teared up as Nurse Francis changed his casts but was later entertained watching the story of creation on the TV show Superbook. Please continue to pray for Xyrus as he is feeling some pain. Pray he will be able to get back to running and playing soon!
While the rest of Xyrus’ buddies were at the clubfoot clinic today, Xyrus got to see a different view at the hospital as he headed down to the OR! Patient and Family Ministry Coordinator Mary Ann prayed for Xyrus and Jecelyn before they went into surgery. Xyrus had an achilles tendon lengthening, which means the tight tendon in the back of his foot was released, allowing him to place his foot flat! Soon after surgery, Xyrus went back to his temporary home at the Seeds of Dignity Care Center. Though the procedure happened quickly, we still ask for your prayers for Xyrus’ recovery!
Xyrus came back to clinic today and spent his down time playing with his buddy John Arnold! Xyrus had his seventh and final casting today and we will see him again next week for his surgery. Please cover him in prayers as he is a step closer to becoming clubfoot free!
"It's Tebow CURE time!" Jecelyn told Xyrus this morning as they woke up early to get in line for clinic. During Xyrus' cast change today, Jecelyn can say that their early mornings have been worth it! There's been significant improvement in Xyrus' feet that he's actually ready to be scheduled for surgery! The smile on Jecelyn's face was priceless! We pray for Xyrus as he gets ready for this next step and we pray for the doctors as they work on getting Xyrus onto the surgery schedule!
“He’s not in a very good mood today! He woke up a little earlier than usual,” Pastor Loloy told us about Xyrus. Xyrus isn’t feeling super hot today and preferred to just hang out with one of his best friends—Pastor Loloy. The team from our partner organization Seeds of Dignity (SOD) who lodge patients have been incredibly helpful to our kids as they heal away from home. SOD’s care center provide the love and hospitality that families like Xyrus’ need. Right after this cast change, Xyrus’ looks forward to nap time at their temporary home this afternoon!
Xyrus found out that he LOVES gloves during clinic and we were pumped to have the ability to hook our little friend up with a source of joy! We would rather have him busy playing with gloves than worrying about his foot. Xyrus is definitely a bubble of joy and we can't wait to see him again for another casting next week!
Xyrus flew in with a group of other kids with clubfoot from another island. It’s amazing to know that the good news of healing is spreading all throughout the Philippines! Because he needs a series of casts before having surgery, Xryus will be staying at our partner Seeds of Dignity’s care center while he comes to us for his casts. Dr. Rayray will constantly check his foot as he comes regularly each week for clinic! We look forward to seeing Xyrus’ progress from here on out!
