Izz Ryker's Story

“I want to be able to support Izz Ryker in his life goals. My dad, Izz Ryker’s grandfather, loves basketball and looks forward for him to be a basketball player one day. I just want him to be able to walk normally one day. He is a happy kid and he brightens up my day,” shares Kim, Izz Ryker’s dad.

Being a first time dad to a child with clubfoot, Kim works hard to find the best possible treatment to his first born—Izz Ryker. Thankfully, he has the support of family surrounding him and his wife, Riza, in this journey.

“My mother is a health worker and she helped me research treatments for my newborn. We were going to get Izz Ryker treated right away but we hear different recommendations—others say “massage” and others say “surgery.” Finally, we were led here at Tebow CURE, where we decided to get treatment,” Kim tells us.

Treatments for kids with a deformity like Izz Ryker is not easily accessible to locals here in Mindanao. Thanks to your support for CURE Philippines, we are able to provide treatment with sustainable check-ups to kids like Izz Ryker. With your prayers, we will be able to share God’s love to Izz Ryker, Kim, and Riza, as we become the hands and feet of Christ to those who are in need!

Izz Ryker’s procedure was pretty straightforward, and he was cleared to go home to rest and recover. He’s feeling a little bit under the weather, due to some post-op pain, so he was given some medication to bring home. Please pray that he will bounce back and recover quickly. We can’t wait to see him again in six weeks! Photo of Izz Ryker

Our little buddy was all smiles as he was wheeled into surgery this morning! The surgical procedure involved doing some tendon transfers to hopefully keep Izz Ryker’s feet flat on the ground and arrest the recurrence of his clubfoot. The medical team finished off by putting his feet in casts, which will stay on for a few weeks. Thank you for your praying! Photo of Izz Ryker

After weeks of cast changes, Izz Ryker will undergo surgery tomorrow! He made sure to bring with him his security blanket and some goodies to munch on since he won’t be allowed to eat later in preparation for his procedure. Please keep them in your prayers for healing! Photo of Izz Ryker

Izz Ryker came back for a follow-up cast change. He wasn't a big fan of the process but he bounced right back to his cheerful self moments after he received some cookies to take home. We asked him how old he was and Izz Ryker tried to figure out how to show "two" using his fingers. Experiencing a setback is never easy, but we are here to walk with Izz Ryker and his family! Thank you for your continuous prayer and support! Photo of Izz Ryker

Two years have flown by so fast that we almost didn’t recognize this little boy running around in the clinic today! Apparently, Izz Ryker’s clubfoot has relapsed. He outgrew his last pair of braces, and his family hasn’t been able to come back to the hospital due to the lockdown. He will need another series of cast changes and a surgical procedure to further correct his feet. Please pray that Izz Ryker’s family will continue to trust God’s plan, as they face this roadblock. Izz Ryker got upgraded from casts to braces today! Thanks to the donors from C-Pro Direct and Black Robin Designs, Izz Ryker got to take home a set of boots and bar that will keep his feet in place! He will wear the brace for 23 hours a day and will need to keep up with it until his feet are fully adjusted to their new position. Izz Ryker will come back to check-in with us in a month! Because of your help, Izz Ryker is now clubfoot free! Photo of Izz Ryker

Izz Ryker was scheduled to come back for a tenotomy today which is the final step of his clubfoot process and he's now done! He will be in casts for a few more weeks and then he'll get some braces to wear in order to maintain his correction. In the meantime, please pray for strength for Riza as she takes care of Izz Ryker and continue to lift Izz Ryker up for quick recovery! His family opted to go home after the procedure today so we'll see them back in a few weeks! Photo of Izz Ryker

Still holding tight to Riza, Izz Ryker stopped by for another cast change. This is the last cast as he moves forward to the next step - his tenotomy! The tenotomy will need a little bit of preparation since we will need to put Izz Ryker to sleep and he'll need to stay in the ward for a night or two as he recovers. Please continue to pray for Izz Ryker! Photo of Izz Ryker

Izz Ryker already knows what’s up each time he sits next to Dr. Shelley. He’s starting to break down in tears, which is normal given the many times that he has to come back for recasting. He still has ways to go and we're trying our best to cheer him on. Thankfully, Riza is here for full support and she is willing to persevere as long as it takes to have Izz Ryker become clubfoot-free! Photo of Izz Ryker

Izz Ryker’s eyebrows were back in furrowed position as his cast change began today, but after shedding a few tears, he mustered some courage, stopped crying, and happily looked around as Tzaddi and Jhun finished recasting him! He’s getting more comfortable with the procedure, and before too long, he’ll be finished. Thanks for all the prayers for Izz Ryker so far! Photo of Izz Ryker

Oh boy, Izz Ryker was less than impressed when Dr. Ray Ray played with his feet in between cast changes! We are very sympathetic to our CUREkids’ pain and discomfort, but his little furrowed eye brows were just too much! Dr. Ray did some light stretching, we emphasize “light”, and were happy to see that Izz Ryker’s feet are becoming quite flexible and are moving into position nicely. We’re hoping next week he’ll feel more relaxed, and his sweet smile will return! Photo of Izz Ryker

Meet Izz Ryker! He charmed us with his sweet smile during clinic and we look forward to seeing him weekly. Even though they live at the end of the island of Mindanao, his parents Kim and Riza are willing to make the trip so the one day he will become clubfoot-free! It will be a long healing journey for Izz Ryker and we are thankful that he has the awesome support of people like you, praying for him! Photo of Izz Ryker
