"Joy is named after his dad. When he was born, we saw that he had clubfoot. Now that he's growing, we can see him walking while holding on to furniture. For now, he crawls non-stop! Joy is very friendly - especially if you have candy," says Joy's mom, Lovely.
Joy definitely lives up to his name. As he keeps growing in age, he continues to make his family so happy! One thing that they hope is that Joy will grow without any disability. He continues to be very active, which is why Lovely was happy to know that there's a free screening for kids with orthopedic needs close to where they live. We are thankful to be an instrument of God's goodness to his people by showing up close to where the need is. But none of this is possible without your help and support to make it happen! Thanks for being a part of our team!
Joy upgraded his casts to a pair of braces during his follow-up! He wasn't very excited about the change at first, but he later on decided that braces are better than casts! He will have to wear it 24 hours except when he's taking a bath. Joy will be back after a month and we hope that he won't give Lovely a hard time as they comply to put his brace on daily!
Joy’s procedure happened first thing this morning. While under sedation, a few small holes were poked in each of his Achilles tendons, allowing his feet to be stretched into their final straight position. He was surrounded by people both during surgery and again before being returned to the ward. His cuteness just draws everyone to him! All that attention paid off though as he was discharged this afternoon! We’ll see him back in a few weeks when he moves on to braces. Thanks for all of your support so far in Joy’s journey!
Joy wasn't as excited as we were when we saw him back today for admission. He will have an achilles tendon lengthening tomorrow morning as the next big step toward healing. Even though he doesn't understand why he needed to go through cast changes every week, Lovely does and she's excited to see him fully healed! Not too long after, Joy warmed up a little when he visited the other ward with familiar faces from his hometown. We look forward to spending more time with Joy and Lovely this week as they take on this next step to his healing!
Joy was full of smiles today! Well, until it was time for his cast change anyways, then was anything but happy with us. Lovely fought back tears again as well, it never gets easier to see your little one upset and uncomfortable. The good news is, it’ll hopefully be the last casting they experience while Joy’s awake, he’ll come in next week for a tendon lengthening which will be done under anesthesia. Please pray that he stays healthy between now and then so we can proceed with surgery and get his treatment closer to completion!
We followed Joy around during mobile clinic because he carried a contagious smile with him! And although his smile turned upside down during casting, our mobile clinic team started him off right in his long treatment to become clubfoot-free. It may be challenging to see right now for Joy and his family, but it will be worth it once they see how Joy improves weekly!
