"Ramon's really shy!" Ramon’s mom, Jeannie, told us eight months ago when Ramon had his first surgery for cleft lip at Tebow CURE. Fast forward months later, Ramon is back for his cleft palate surgery and to extract the tooth that grew out of his lip. This time, Jeannie says, “He moves non-stop! He always likes to play and is really friendly! My favorite thing about him is that he’s very affectionate.”
As Ramon babbles and tries to join our conversation, we are pleased to see how much his personality has grown. Being the only child, he likes to be the center of attention and you will become best friends especially if you play basketball with him.
The first time he came to Tebow CURE, he managed to be passed around half the staff, never complaining or crying once. We hope that he has the same experience this time around given that Jeannie, in the best way she can, tells Ramon that he will have surgery again. "We're happy to have his cleft lip taken care of at such a young age! I am nervous this time around for his cleft palate surgery," Jeannie adds. We may not completely understand what it feels to have a child go through surgery, but together with your support, we get to be a part of Ramon’s healing and serve his family!
We have good news! Ramon is growing every time he comes to see us for clinic and this time, he graduated from our own clinic and has been referred to a speech therapist so he can start learning how to talk with a closed palate. We are thankful for your prayers and partnership in all of this! God has heard our prayers and Ramon is already well!
Ramon is back, but only for a quick visit this time as we snapped a photo of his palate. Jeannie just wants to make sure that Ramon is all good. Since our doctors are away, we'll send them the photos for evaluation. It's good to see Ramon doing well, and we'll keep in touch with them when we hear back from the doctor's update!
We offer quality medical care to our patients, but what really matters the most, is the parent's love for their children. We saw that through Jeannie and Ram as they took care of Ramon during their time at the hospital. We're sad to say goodbye to them so soon, but it won't be long until he comes back for a follow-up! Thank you so much for your support! Ramon's healing is possible with our partnership with you!
Playing ball is on hold for Ramon as he goes into the OR today, but that doesn't mean that his entertainment is over! While waiting, Nurse Vivian pulls out a "Baby Shark" rhyme video, to sing and dance-along with. Watching "Cars" was another option, which Ramon enjoyed. After Dr. Norman pulled out his tooth, the medical team continued with his cleft palate surgery. With a slight complication to put him under anesthesia, he bounced back right away and recovered after surgery! We appreciate your prayers for Ramon as well as the medical staff who continuously give their best to take care of him!
"We are trying to use all of his energy so he can get a good night sleep," says Jeannie. That said, Ramon has been in the playroom with a ball in his hand, passing it to anybody who wants to play with him. But, that wasn't enough to use up all his energy. He acted like a bouncing ball when he got into the ward, playing and babbling with his visitors. With his personality, he's probably not going to get tired anytime soon, which is normal for a toddler his age. Even so, we pray that he will have a restful night so he can be ready to take on another surgery tomorrow. Let's join in praying for little, energetic Ramon!
