What am I giving to?

CURE in Philippines

The picture above is of CURE in Philippines. The doctors, nurses, technicians, cooks, cleaners, and administrators of CURE Philippines are dedicated to providing the highest quality medical and spiritual care to people who, without CURE, couldn't find it and couldn't afford it, just like Jecel. To do that, we're inviting you to partner with us.

We need to raise approximately $2000 for Jecel and kids like her. When you give a gift through Jecel's CUREkids profile, your contribution is designated to an exclusive country fund for CURE's work in Philippines, and those funds can only be used for operational expenses to treat patients in Philippines. Have more questions? Ask us.

Monthly Giving: Be a Hero!

When you partner with us monthly, we'll send you an email each month to introduce you to a different child who was helped because of your generosity. You can choose to follow their updates and send them get well messages. That means that each year, you're a part of helping 12 different children, beginning with Jecel. We call it being a CURE Hero!

Got it. Thanks for the explanation.

“I’m here [at CURE] to have surgery so my foot can be healed! “ Jecel confidently tells us.

When we first met Jecel, she came across shy and quiet. It only took a few minutes to crack that shell and get her talking though. “I’m in the 5th grade at school. I have a lot of friends, and my best friends are Jesel with an “S” and Mega Faith. We like to play house and tag. It’s not confusing having another friend named Jesel, I just go by my pretend name “Yuki”. The kids at school don’t bully me, and it doesn’t really hurt to walk. I’m really not sure what I’ll do once my foot is fixed, since I can do a lot now. When I grow up, I want to work at the mall!”

Dad Danilo feeds fish for a living, and his wife Carmelita also works, deboning fish at a local company. “We have seven kids, and Jecel is the fourth, right in the middle. She’s the only child with a disability. Her siblings sometimes tease her, but then they’ll also help her. Her left foot turns in, so when she runs she hops. Her left hand is also limited, but first we’ll have surgery on her foot, then later her hand.” We’re excited to see all the possibilities that Jecel doesn’t even know are out there open up once she’s healed!

Jecel was back to get her final, very well worn cast off! She's been doing some walking since we saw her last, which helped keep her strong while she healed. Her exam room was full of staff members cheering her on, and when the cast was off, none other than Jon Foreman of Switchfoot gave her a one on one concert! It was a big day for Jecel, but being clubfoot free at last was the highlight! Photo of Jecel

It was our turn to hit the road this past weekend and we met Jecel at a mobile clinic. She's doing well, but not quite done with treatment just yet. We changed her old casts and she has a fresh new set for the next six weeks. The next time we see each other, we hope that Jecel's new casts show proof that she's been walking in them. Please continue praying for her healing! Photo of Jecel

All that stood between Jecel and the exit door this afternoon was one more prescription for pain relief medicine. While she waited, we kept her occupied by reading all her Get Well messages, she has quite a fan club! Shortly afterward, her medicine arrived and she and Danilo hit the road. We’ll see her back soon, thanks for all of your encouraging words! Photo of Jecel

We heard about Jecel's sad face going into the OR yesterday, so it was a treat to see her sweet smile in the ward. With her foot elevated and tablet on her lap, she was content while slicing her way to becoming a professional Fruit Ninja! Jecel is healing well and should be headed home soon! Thanks for praying! Jecel was very insistent that Danilo stay with her as long as he could before surgery today, and he happily obliged, talking gently with her to keep her calm. Dr. Reyes took some bone out of her ankle to get her foot rotated in the right direction, so now she’s done with the scary part and can just focus on healing! Photo of Jecel

It's raining outside and without sun, it's hard to find a spot around the hospital that'll give us enough light for Jecel's gwapa (pretty) shot. She was willing enough to walk around with us though and posed for a natural beautiful smile for a perfect header photo. When we left, she stayed in the ward for some cozy time on her bed as she prepares for tomorrow's surgery. Photo of Jecel
