Ali's Story

“Ali is very happy when he finds a stick! He tries to lean on it and then pushes himself up to stand on his feet. But unfortunately, most of the time, he falls back and starts crying because he can’t get up,” says Ali's mother.

When Ali was born, his legs were bent backward a bit. The doctors recommended putting a cast on his legs and the family followed their advice. For three years, Ali had his cast changed twice a month. Though there was a small visible improvement, his legs continued to become bowed.

In 2017, a CURE mobile clinic visited their village, and the family was urged to bring Ali to CURE. Instead, they continued the cast changes at the local hospital. One day, a pastor reminded Ali’s mom of CURE. In November, she decided to give us a try and brought him to CURE Niger!

“I see kids getting healed here. All I want for Ali is to get healed, to go to school, and to gain his freedom - his independence!” It will be a challenging journey of healing for Ali, but nevertheless, he will come out victorious and on straight legs!

"A mother's arms are made of tenderness and children sleep soundly in them." This is a quote from Victor Hugo, and it comes to mind right now. Ali was ready to take a nap. He sweetly smiled at his mother hoping to take it in her arms. Ali continues his recovery at our guesthouse, and soon he will have a check-up with our doctors. Until then, sleeping, eating, and playing around are his consistent activities here at CURE. Photo of Ali
