Moutari was not born like this. His accident happened a year ago when Moutari, his father, and a few other members of their family were out farming. Given that the farm is very far away from their village, they have decided to go spend a few days out there and then return after they are done. One night, as Moutari and his family members were sleeping outside, he screamed as he felt something bite his foot. Because it was dark, no one could see what it was. By morning, the bite had become swollen and was beginning to pus.
Moutari's father Ousmane wasted no time, left the farmwork to the other family members, and rushed Moutari to the health center in the town near to their village. Ousmane told us as the treatment took a long time and the wound just kept getting worse. They turned to some herbal treatments which did help the wound heal, but as it did, Moutari's skin contracted and twisted, pulling the top of his foot up towards his shin.
Ousmane learned about CURE Niger through a mobile clinic that our team held in their village. He is very grateful that CURE Niger facilitated his transportation to the hospital and prays that his son's surgery would be a success!
Moutari is back for a bandage change, and we are happy to see him again. He's doing well, and he told us that he is very happy to have received surgery. He hopes that his foot will go back to its normal position. Please continue to pray for Moutari!
Moutari has been having a good recovery back in the ward. We were glad to see him in good shape this morning when we visited. The nurses told us that because he has been doing well, Moutari will be released back home where he will continue his healing!
Help us welcome Moutari to CURE Niger! Moutari will receive a surgery that will release the melted skin on his foot. He is a bit shy as it is his first day in the ward, but we hope to hear more from him as he goes through this healing journey!
