Meet Hassana! She has an instant best friend and twin sister Ousseinia. They are both born with congenital syndactyly on both hands, which means that Hassana's fingers––the little finger, the ring finger and the middle fingers––are joined together. When the twins were born, their parents were very happy to have them. "Even when they noticed the deformity, they learned to thank God for for their babies as they are and trust him for their lives" shares Maria, the twins' grandmother.
Hassana's parents learned about CURE through a relative. Thankful for the financial contributions of friends and relatives, Hassana's parents were able to pay transportation for Hassana and her twin sister to CURE Niger. They are accompanied by their grandmother, Maria.
Maria says that she was very pleased with the warm welcome she received from our hospital when she first arrived. She prays that her granddaughters' operation will be a success.
Hassana (right) continues to enjoy "the gift of her new life" here at CURE Children's Hospital of Niger together with her sister, Ousseina (left). She's healed well and doesn't need any more bandages! Soon she will go through another surgery to separate her other fingers. Until then, she keeps buzzing around cheerfully!
Hassana (right) and her sister, Ousseina, were passing by, filled with laughter and joy! No more bandages! Her wounds have healed nicely. Soon, she will be ready for another surgery. Meanwhile, she is enjoying life here at CURE Niger. Thank you for your prayers and support!
Hassana stopped in the alley to give us a glimpse of her beautiful dress! She is really enjoying her time at CURE! She keeps going for her weekly bandage change, and the doctors are pleased with her progress! Please keep her in your prayers, as Hassana continues to go steadfast towards her full healing!
We caught Hassana enjoying the swing again. She just rests there dreaming of better days to come. She is a bundle of energy and is recovering smoothly. Hassana sends her greetings to all of you. May His peace be our swing when we need it the most!
Hassana swings back and forth, steadily and slowly. The breeze of healing keeps pushing her forward, and a quiet smile flourishes in the corner of her lips and soul. What a great view of recovery! Hassana is blooming, and her physical recovery is simply mirroring her soul. Swing little child, swing!
"Look at my hands!" said Hassana turning towards us. She was excited to see her fingers improving greatly since she had her last surgery! We are happy to be witnessing her joy and healing. Hassana will continue to have her bandages changed every week. Please continue to shower her with your love and messages!
Hassana is continuing her recovery at our guesthouse. Her hands are healing nicely, and she keeps regularly visiting our dressing room for her bandage changes. Hassana sends warm greetings to all of you as she looks forward with eyes of hope! Thank you for your prayers and your messages!
Hassana is all smiles today! She must have had a painless experience in the dressing room while she was getting her new bandage! We are grateful to see her shining and to witness her recovery. Thank you for your get-well messages! Please keep Hassana in your prayers.
Hassana visited her sister in the ward. Now, she has taken on the job of "the caring sister" while Ousseina still recovers from her recent surgery. Hassana is doing great, spending her time between her dressing room appointments, helping her sister out in the ward, and playing with the kids at the guesthouse! May God continue to shower His grace abundantly upon their lives as they continue to travel on this journey of recovery.
Hassana went back to the patient guesthouse. She is feeling better and doing well! Hassana will continue her healing process here with us. She will have a dressing change in the following days. Please keep on praying for her!
Hassana is getting better and better with each passing day! Her wounds are healing, and her laughter is back! Hassana is well taken care of by CURE’s staff and her sister Ousseina. We were able to get a picture of her while she snacked. We thank God for her recovery. Please continue to pray for Hassana’s healing.
Hassana’s surgery was a success! The doctors separated her ring and middle fingers on both hands. She is now back in the ward with her hands covered in bandages. Hassana is in just a bit of pain, but her ultra-caring sister is around ready to be of help. No doubt the recovery will get easier with such an adorable sister right next to her!
The results from the last tests were good, and Hassana has been admitted to the ward. She’s super confident and is flashing a contagious smile as she gets ready for surgery! Please pray with us for a smooth operation.
Last week, Hassana's pre-anesthesia check found out that she had a bit of a cold. While it's not that big of a deal in the whole scheme of things, it means it was unsafe for her to get her surgery this week. We hooked her up with some meds and she's been getting better slowly but surely! She had some tests taken today and, assuming the results come back showing she's healed up, she'll be put back on the schedule for surgery!
We are happy to have seen Hassana this morning. She came for pre-anesthesia checks. If her results are good, she will be scheduled for her second operation. Pray for her that the results of the exams will be favorable.
Hassana always seems to have this little cheeky smile on her face! She's passing her time as we wait for her next surgery by playing with all the new friends she's making in the long term patient guesthouse!
While she patiently waits for her wound to heal completely, Hassana makes the best of each moment she can share with her friends at the guesthouse! Please keep Hassana in your prayers for rapid healing!
Hassana bursts out laughing because she finds it very amusing that the patient next to her is very dedicated to singing lullabies to her teddy bear! Hassana got her bandage changed yesterday and, this time, the nurses differentiated the bandage color of Hassana from the one Ousseina has! Please, keep Hassana in your prayers!
Hassana and her twin sister adore to get their pictures taken especially when they see us in the ward. They're so silly and try to confuse us with their names. But we are glad to have them around bringing joy to other kids in the guesthouse!
Hassana practiced her crafting skills. Aunty Salamatou from the spiritual department asked the group of Hassana to create any object that they remember from their villages using clay. Hassana molded a cow to remember the cows she used to ride in the village when they go to the farm. She also made kitchen stools. Hassana was so happy to play with friends using clay!
When we met Hassana this morning, we were pretty amazed to see her in good shape. She has recovered well from her surgery and is ready to go back to the guest house where she will continue her healing.
After long hours of surgery, Hassana is sleeping soundly in the recovery room under the supervision of our PACU nurses. The surgery went well and Hassana will soon go back to the ward to continue her recovery. Please pray for Hassana's rapid healing!
