Eight months ago, Yasser and his mother were in bed for a little siesta. His mother quickly dozed off while Yasser had a bit more trouble falling asleep. Eventually he gave up and got up to go play in the courtyard of their house. While he was playing, he accidentally fell into the still very hot center of their extinguished cooking fire. His cries of pain woke up his mother, but his fingers were already badly burnt before she could get to him.
Yasser's mother immediately took him to the hospital where he received treatment. Today, the wounds have healed, but in a way that force Yasser's fingers into a bent, claw-like position.
His father, having learned through one of his colleagues that his child's case is treatable by CURE Niger, brought Yasser to us. Yasser's father says he is very happy with the warm welcome he received and hopes that we will be able to fix his son's rights.
Let us pray that Yasser's treatment will be a success!
Grandma has been taking good care of Yasser. We are happy to see him in better shape today compared to last week when he suffered malaria (a common and treatable disease in Niger during rainy season.) Feeling all better, Yasser is ready for today's therapy session!
Yasser has just finished his bandage change. Because his wounds are healing very quickly, he is no longer afraid of the bandage change but comes out with big smiles on his face! He is also continuing his physical therapy with Sodogas and it is progressing well. Let us continue to pray for Yasser.
Yasser has had his surgery! From the look on his face, he seems to be doing fine post-op. During the procedure, Dr. Anthony released the burns on Yasser's fingers and took a skin graft from Yasser's stomach/hip area to cover the newly-extended fingers. Yasser's surgery was pretty small so he's already been discharged! We'll see him again later this week for a bandage change. Please keep praying for him as he recovers.
