"I swear! We had never seen anything like Zeinabou's feet when she was born!" Mamata, Zeinabou's older sister, exclaimed remembering the day Zeinabou entered the world. Zeinabou was born with a condition called clubfoot where her feet bend in and she essentially walks on her ankles. Never having seen anything like clubfoot before, Zeinabou's family was advised that this was God's will for Zeinabou and their family so they settled in to make the best of a bad situation. For years now, Zeinabou has done her best to help out around the house, but she struggles to walk and balance on her clubfeet. Thankfully, an "anasara"(white person), most likely a missionary or aid worker, showed up in their village and after seeing Zeinabou was able to tell them about us here at CURE Niger. Now that Zeinabou is here with us, she will get the surgery she needs to straighten her feet and stand proudly! As for the future, Zeinabou tells us when her feet are straight, she wants to go to school and eventually become a doctor! Please join us in praying for Zeinabou as she takes this first step on her journey to straight feet and a new future!
Our anesthesiologists set up Zeinabou with some top notch pain management so she feels pretty good after her surgery. The doctors are pleased with the way her body is recovering from her surgery and they've already discharged her. She'll be able to continue healing from the comfort of her own home and we will see her in six weeks for her follow up appointment!
Zeinabou has had her surgery! Dr Henri assisted by Dr Anthony opted to work on her left foot first. They rearranged some of the tendons in her foot so that they will now pull her foot into a straight position. They also had to remove some bone matter in order to create the space needed for her foot to sit straight. She's been casted up and is back in the ward recovering. Please be praying for her as she now begins the hard work of healing up!
Zeinabou has come to CURE Niger with her older sister Mamata and her nephew Oumar (pictured) since they live in the same town as the hospital. We're so glad to have her here and thankful that she has family close by to help her start this journey to healing! Will you pray with us as Zeinabou gets ready for her surgery?
