Mahamadou's Story

"I don't know what I would like him to be when he grows up. I would just like him to live a good life." Mahamadou's mother Kadidja tells us with an ever so brief, loving glance down at her son. Mahamadou is the third out of four children in his family and the first one to seriously test the family's resolve. When he was less than a year old and had just learned to crawl, he managed to find his way to a pot of boiling food that had just been taken off the fire. Enticed by the smell, he plunged his hand into the liquid, immediately scalding his young flesh. In the years since then, his hand has healed, but in a way where he cannot fully straighten his fingers. Kadidja tells us he finds a way to do most things, but she dreams of a day when he can straighten out his hand like everyone else. Thankfully Mahamadou and Kadidja have found us here at CURE Niger where Mahamadou will get the treatment he needs to regain full use of his hand once again!

Mahamadou is doing great after his surgery and, after the doctors did a final check on him this morning, he was discharged! Before he left, our Child Mentor Salamatou checked in on him and joked around a little before praying for him. Please join us in praying for Mahamadou and his family as he spends this time at home before he comes back to check in with us! Photo of Mahamadou

Easey Peasey. Mahamadou's surgery is done! With two surgeons and a nurse working on Mahamadou's hand, it was a quick one. One doctor worked on releasing the burned skin on Mahamadou's fingers while the other one took a small skin graft from Mahamadou's forearm to be put onto his newly straight fingers. The nurse kept both doctors supplied with the tools they needed and Mahamadou was out in no time! Please keep praying for him as he will wake up with a big old bandage around his hand as it heals up!
