CURE in Niger

The picture above is of CURE in Niger. Everyone who serves with CURE in Niger, from medical professionals to office staff, are dedicated to providing the highest quality medical and spiritual care to people who, without CURE, couldn't find it and couldn't afford it, just like Roukaya. To do that, we're inviting you to partner with us.

We need to raise approximately $1000 to treat children like Roukaya. When you give a gift through Roukaya's CUREkids profile, your contribution will help us continue our work in countries like Niger. Have more questions? Ask us.

Monthly Giving: Be a Hero!

When you partner with us monthly, we'll send you an email each month to introduce you to a different child who was helped because of your generosity. You can choose to follow their updates and send them get well messages. That means that each year, you're a part of helping 12 different children, beginning with Roukaya. We call it being a CURE Hero!

Got it. Thanks for the explanation.

“Life is difficult for Roukaya since her accident,” Roukaya’s Grandmother tells as Roukaya was feeling rather timid this morning. It was an ordinary day in a village far from CURE Niger when Roukaya’s sister was preparing a meal over hot coals. All they wanted was to have a simple meal together, but things took a drastic turn for the worse when Roukaya fell into the pile of fiery hot coals, badly burning her face and hands. Not having any medical facilities in their village, Roukaya's family didn’t know what to do except allow time to pass. Roukaya's burns did eventually heal, but in scarred and disabling ways, one of which is several of her fingers are essentially melted to the palm of her hand. The way the burns on her hand have healed prevent Roukaya from fully opening or using her hand effectively.

As their family looked desperately for solutions, Roukaya’s grandmother remembered a little girl who had come here to CURE Niger with a cleft lip and returned to the village as a healed child. Daring to hope, they ventured out to find us, believing that Roukaya could be healed as well! We are so glad they have found us and we cannot wait to restore function to Roukaya's hand! She will most likely still have a difficult future ahead of her, but we will remove what physical limitations of hers we can and make sure she leaves here knowing she is indescribably loved by both us and God!

Our apologies for not updating you sooner, but Roukaya faithfully attended her physical therapy sessions and our physical therapists taught her mom a few of the exercises so Roukaya can keep improving from home. After that, this little one was discharged! She will need some more surgery in the future, but for now she can relax and work on her physical therapy from the comfort of her own home!

The big news this week is that Roukaya got her bandage off! Her surgical wounds have healed nicely and now it's time for some physical therapy as the doctors work out the plan for her next surgery! Photo of Roukaya

Another week, another rotation through the bandage change room for little Roukaya. It can be tedious, but Roukaya has such a great attitude about it all and smile that lights up everyone around her! Photo of Roukaya

In between bandage changes, Roukaya loves to hang out with our spiritual staff and all the activities they plan! Today there was a game time in our chapel where she played a game kind of like hot potato, but you're out only if you drop the ball. Even Roukaya's mom (in the pink) got into it! After the game, there was a Bible story time. Long stays at the hospital can be kind of boring, but we're doing out best to make them both educational and fun! Photo of Roukaya

Roukaya is still chugging away at her healing process. She's also still staying here at CURE Niger in our long term patient guesthouse as she goes in for bandage changes and wound cleanings every other day. The wound cleanings are important to keep her hand from getting infected and to allow her hand to heal up properly! Please keep praying for this little one and her fantastic smile! Photo of Roukaya

Roukaya has bounced back so fast after her surgery and was discharged! Since she lives a long way away from CURE Niger, she is staying at our patient guesthouse among friends. She’s back to being herself more now that she had time for healing and rest! Photo of Roukaya

Roukaya's surgery went well! Our surgical staff released the burned skin that was trapping her fingers to her palm of her hand and grafted a piece of healthy skin to cover the newly exposed areas! Overall it was a nice, straight forward surgery and this little lady is resting up in the ward now. She'll be in a little discomfort over the coming days and will have to get used to her hand being trapped in a big bandage so please be praying for her! Photo of Roukaya

Roukaya and her grandma have made it here to CURE Niger after lots of traveling and wanting to change Roukaya’s future! We're pumped that God used a previous patient to help connect them to CURE and we can't wait to see what He has in store for them! Photo of Roukaya
