Charifa's Story

"When you hear a solution of an issue you never thought could be resolved, it's more than words can say," Senia (Charifa's grandmother) says. Charifa is an 11-year old that has been through a lot in her years. She was born with her condition which she says made it hard form the start to have friends. "Maybe if I got it later I might have already made friends and they may not have left," Charfa told us. Charifa comes from a place where if something happens to you they believe that either you or one of your family members did something to anger God. Charifa and her family have been under pressure from people talking about what is it the family members did, so much pressure that some of their family members would start denying they were part of the family. All the kids made fun of her and would call her names and sometimes they would not give her any worth. "When I heard about CURE Niger just hearing there is a possibility for healing felt like a weight was lifted from my shoulders," said Senia. Senia heard about CURE Niger on television, she saw an advertisement for CURE Niger's 8th anniversary. Senia is overjoyed that she is here and that healing is about to start. Pray with us for that healing and join us in showing Charifa that she is part of the CURE family and is a child of God!

Charifa came for her follow up appointment today! The doctors were a little worried as Charifa hasn't been bending her knee since she received her surgery. She keeps is straight while walking and sticks her leg out when she sits down. They checked her knee out and didn't find anything wrong. The good news is that Charifa can now walk without her walker! She's been given some exercises to get her used to bending her knee and soon she'll be walking normally again! We'll see her again in six week for another check up! Photo of Charifa

Charifa has had her surgery and everything is going well! The doctors decided to start with her right leg during this surgery, they explained that doing one leg at a time will be better for her since the procedure is delicate. The doctors took part of her bone from her leg and made a wedge. They then drilled an iron rod down her leg bone and connected the two bones where they took the wedge out from. Pray for her recovery that everything goes well! Photo of Charifa
