"We never thought about putting him in school due to his condition, but upon hearing about CURE Niger all that changed," said Maimouna, Hassane's grandmom. Hassane's family moves a lot because they have cattle. During the hot season, they wander around setting up camp in different places but during the rainy season, they go back to their village to farm. They were on their way back when Hassane was about two years old when he got burned. They had just packed up camp to move on but the fire from the night that was now just burning charcoal was still lit. While everybody's attention was concentrated on packing, Hassane's was on the red burning charcoal. He walked over to the fire and took a piece of charcoal in his left hand. He immediately started to cry but when his mother looked over she did not understand why he was crying due to how firmly he held it. After finally understanding why he was crying, they opened his hand and took the charcoal away from him but by that time his hand had been badly burned. "We never thought it was curable so we just lived with it like that. After hearing about CURE Niger from a few of our village mates, we started to think of things Hassane would be able to do now and when he grows up. We were given options we never thought we'd have," Maimouna said. Thank you for being part of the hope that healing brings through your prayers and support of Hassane!

Hassan came in for his first bandage change today! We are happy to see everything is going well and as planned. He cried a bit when the nurses were trying to change his bandage, but more out of fear of something new than any pain. The nurses assure us his hand is in good condition and just needed a bit of cleaning and new bandaging! Photo of Hassane

Hassane's surgery went fantastically! The doctors were able to release all the fingers that were stuck to his palm. After his fingers were released, the doctors took some skin from his stomach and grafted it onto the newly exposed areas on his fingers. Everything went well but please keep him in your prayers as the recovery is always uncomfortable. Photo of Hassane
