"We thought it was the end and nothing could be done," said Hadjara, Mahamadou's mother. Mahamadou was eleven years old when he and his friends wanted to brew some tchi, a type of tea brewed on charcoal by young people in Niger. "We couldn't get the fire to start so my friends and I decided to put some petrol on the fire and that's when it blew up and caught my clothes," Mahamadou told us. After the incident, they went to a local hospital where the burns were cleaned and left to heal. As the burns were healing they began to contract, making him unable to use his hand to its full potential. The family looked for hospitals that could help them but they did not find one. They had just given up and said it was fate for him to be like this when CURE Niger had an outreach trip in their village. Thanks to donors like you, kids like Mahamadou are able to experience healing!
Yeah! Today all the kids got soccer balls! Mahamadou was so excited that he couldn't decide whether he wanted to play soccer or not just so could keep his new soccer ball clean! He then decided that he'd keep it clean for now until he went home. "The first time I play with this ball is when I'm home with my brothers!" Mahamadou said. Mahamadou is doing well medically. Pray for him as he continues to heal and get his bandage changes.
Mahamadou is just a great kid to be around! He has made friends and is making them laugh. Today they had art therapy where they made crafts and Mahamadou was laughing at the noise the craft makes because of the beads inside the cup. Mahamadou is making great progress with healing, please keep him in your prayers!
Mahamadou is feeling great and has joined our guesthouse kids. He is making friends and is a wonderful addition to our guesthouse. Today they played a game where you tried to score on the opposite team by throwing the ball at the opposite goal. Mahamadou was the best at this game. His contribution added to the fun and even made some children who don't laugh much, laugh a bit!
Mahamadou has been discharged! He will be coming back for bandage changes over the next few weeks. He's got a hard cast under that bandage to minimize his hand movements and so that he does not pop the stitches out. Please pray for Mahamadou as he heals and continues bandage changes!
Praise -Mahamadou had a successful surgery! The doctors cut part of his armpit that was prohibiting him to use his arm to its full potential. So in releasing that part of his skin will allow him to move his arm more freely, enabling him to do more than he can now!
Mahamadou is here at CURE Niger. We are excited for him. He is a fun guy to be around and he loves pictures, but has not yet understood why he should smile. He thinks that pictures need to be serious. Pray for him as he prepares for surgery, and that it will be a success.
