CURE in Niger

The picture above is of CURE in Niger. Everyone who serves with CURE in Niger, from medical professionals to office staff, are dedicated to providing the highest quality medical and spiritual care to people who, without CURE, couldn't find it and couldn't afford it, just like Issoufou. To do that, we're inviting you to partner with us.

We need to raise approximately $1000 to treat children like Issoufou. When you give a gift through Issoufou's CUREkids profile, your contribution will help us continue our work in countries like Niger. Have more questions? Ask us.

Monthly Giving: Be a Hero!

When you partner with us monthly, we'll send you an email each month to introduce you to a different child who was helped because of your generosity. You can choose to follow their updates and send them get well messages. That means that each year, you're a part of helping 12 different children, beginning with Issoufou. We call it being a CURE Hero!

Issoufou's Story

"He was burned as a baby. He has never used his hand like a normal child," Issouofu's father tells us with a sadness in his voice. When Issoufou was just an infant, he crawled into the family's cooking area and plunged his hand into a pot of boiling water, not knowing any better. With no medical facilities in their village, Issoufou's parents rushed him to one of their neighbors who practices as a traditional healer. This neighbor was unable to help Issoufou in any practical way during the following days and weeks. Eventually, his family was able to work out the logistics to take Issoufou to a nearby town where he was seen at a medical clinic. Unfortunately, it was too late to help Issoufou. For years now, Issoufou has lived with fingers that are essentially melted together. He cannot use them independently and wrestles with tasks the rest of the village takes for granted. In his current situation, Issoufou will struggle to contribute to society and will be cast aside to the outskirts of his community. Thankfully, one of our CURE Niger outreach teams was visiting a nearby village and word of the hope we offer reached Issoufou's family. Issoufou was rushed to see our staff there where he was told he could be helped. He has now traveled to our hospital in Niger's capital city where he will get the treatment needed to free both his fingers and his future!

Issoufou came back for his check up and gave us another thumbs up photo (we can't actually get a photo of him not giving a thumbs up. We've tried ...). The doctors are happy with how things are progressing. He's been instructed to continue his physical therapy with some exercises at home and we'll see him again in two months time! Photo of Issoufou

Our man and his patented thumbs up pose came back today and has started his physical therapy sessions. It's not a fun process, relearning to use those fingers independently, but it's important! Photo of Issoufou

Issoufou stopped back in for a check up. The bandages are off and this man, once again, has five separate fingers! It's been a fun ride with Issoufou and we are pumped about the results!!! Photo of Issoufou

Issoufou finally got the thumbs up to head home today which he was more than ready for. He's scheduled to be back here next week to start his bandage change regimen so please be praying with us that he makes all his follow up appointments and we get his hand fully healed! Photo of Issoufou

Most kids spend the day after surgery just sleeping in bed and not being all that involved in the world around them. This is not the case for Issoufou! Even with his hand all bandaged, our man is up and about the ward. The doctors are keeping him for a little while more to observe his healing, but we can't imagine he'll be here much longer! Please be praying with us for patience for Issoufou and his father as we all set out on the hard part of this process: the healing! Photo of Issoufou

We have a visiting plastic surgeon from Scotland who is a specialist in hands. He was the one who took on Issoufou's case and everything went amazingly! The surgical team was able to release the burn contractures and get the hand set up to heal properly. Please continue to pray with us that Issoufou's body handles the healing just as well as he did in surgery! Photo of Issoufou
