"Mercy is my sister's child, but I have raised her from the time she started walking, and I call her my own. I was so scared when I saw her legs bending. I thought, maybe it is my failure to properly raise Mercy," Vaster, Mercy's aunt tells us.
Vaster found peace after hearing about CURE Children's Hospital of Malawi and that Mercy could receive free surgery there. Vaster lives with Mercy while her parents live abroad. Mercy's legs began to bow as soon as she started walking, and this has made life for Mercy more difficult. She can walk but with a lot of pain. Vaster took Mercy to a local hospital a few times for help, and they were given pills and sent back home. Thankfully, on their last trip to the local hospital, they were referred to CURE Malawi.
Now, Mercy is at CURE Malawi, and she will receive her surgery soon! As a two-year-old, Mercy may not understand the importance of this operation, but think about how many years God has installed for her future! God calls the little ones to come to Him.
Please join us in prayers for a beautiful and successful operation for Mercy!
"I am finally going home to see my friend Nicole, I hope she will teach me what I missed out on in our part-time class," said Mercy. Mercy is a smart girl with a beautiful character. We believe that the surgery she has received here at CURE Malawi will be a big life change! Mercy is in her physical therapy session today. Even though she was super scared to walk, she was successful and finished her exercises. In fact, she is heading home already! Please keep her in your prayers for a safe trip home.
Mercy made it into the operating room! Miracle, her stuffed animal, and Mercy's mother are in the waiting area. The doctors are going to put in metal pins that will help to correct Mercy's leg as she grows. This healing process will take a few months, and then Mercy will come back to have the pins removed. Please keep Mercy in your prayers!
Meet Mercy! Mercy brought her "child" to the hospital, and her name is Miracle. We did not know that Mercy had a big stuffed animal about her size until this morning when we went to her bed to check on her. She pulled Miracle from a bag and cuddled it. Mercy is a sweet friend to everyone in the ward, and she has an everlasting smile! As Mercy is heading to surgery tomorrow, please stand with us in prayer for a successful procedure.
