“My mother told me that I was not born with bowed legs but that the deformity developed as I was growing up and I hate it. I wish I could have straight legs just for once. I feel so much pain and everyone makes fun of how bent my legs are” Ruth’s confides in us. Magret, Ruth’s mother, tells us that her daughter developed bowed legs when she was just a year and three months old. “Every time I tried to seek medical help, the clinicians told me that Ruth couldn’t be assisted. I couldn't do anything but take my daughter back home and watch her suffer from this deformity,” said Magret. Malawian culture has a different perspective when a child is born with a deformity. People assume it has happened because the parents or the child has been cursed. However, Ruth’s parents did not give in to these assumptions and give up. Magret went to a local pastor who encouraged her to trust God. And in time, this pastor was able to connect her with one of our CURE Malawi mobile clinics that was taking place near their town. Magret was so excited at even the possibility of receiving help! Ruth was seen by our CURE doctors and given a date to come for an operation! We believe that she will have a successful treatment and she will walk out our doors with straight legs. Please help us lift up Ruth and Magret as they being their healing journey!
Ruth finished her exercises and she is now going home! She will be back the end of April! The physical therapy team gave Ruth strict instructions to continue her exercises while at home. Please remember her in your prayers!
Ruth was already up and about today and did a little physical therapy! She's not in much pain from the surgery, but she is afraid to use her leg. She is trying her best though. Please pray that she continues to be a brave girl and carry on to complete her exercises as they help speed along her recovery!
Ruth's operation took about four hours, but it is done! We thank God for your prayers and support while Ruth was in the OR. It was a successful procedure to straighten her right leg. She will be on bed rest up for a bit and she'll soon start physical therapy. Once she is all healed up from this operation, we'll begin work on her left leg!
Ruth is going to the OR Today! Please pray for her successful operation. The doctors will correct her right leg first. It's not a fun experience, but with your prayers and encouragement, we believe this young lady will make it through!
