“The first time my friends laughed at my hand, I wanted to stop going to school. My mother kept telling me that I should not mind the jokes and I made the call to tell the teacher every time I heard someone making fun of my burnt hand.” Chiweruzo told us. When Chiweruzo was just one year old he was crawling around as babies tend to do, following around his mother as she did her household chores. He followed her into the kitchen where they had just finished cooking breakfast and the hot ash was still smoldering in the fire pit. Chiweruzo hadn't yet learned the dangers of fire and managed to put his little hand down right in the hot embers. The burns were instant and bad. His mother immediately set out on the long journey to the nearest hospital where he was treated and discharged. Unfortunately, Chiweruzo's family didn't have the money to make the repeated trips needed for the necessary after care. As a result, his hand healed in a disabling manner.
Chiweruzo's disability causes some pain, lots of challenges in trying to use his hand, and isolation from the other kids at his school. Thankfully, after years of living with this disability, a local doctor saw Chiweruzo and was able to tell Chiweruzo and his family about us here at CURE Malawi. Chiweruzo and his aunt Sara have now made the journey here to our hospital, where they'll get the treatment they need and the support to make sure everything heals the way it should. His Aunt Sara shared with us, "I am so encouraged that we can meet and pray with the spiritual staff everyday and this has really given me hope and assurance of Chiweruzo’z healing.”
As for Chiweruzo, he just has one dream for the future - “Once I am treated and well again, I will go to school and show all those who used to laugh at me that look! I am well, now let us go play football!"
Great news! Chimweuzo got discharged and has gone home! It all happened so fast that we didn't get to say a proper goodbye, but he'll be back for a check up in a bit so it's all good. Please be praying for this young man as he is in charge of his own healing while he's gone!
Chimweruzo is having the best time in the playroom today! Along with making necklaces and hand painting with the volunteers, there are bubbles! Chimweruzo loves bubbles and while other kids were trying to pop them with there hands or blow on them to keep them up in the air, Chim decided to chop at them with scissors. He had everyone in the room laughing. We are glad to seem Chimweruzo enjoying his time at the hospital with his new friends and lots of bubbles. Thanks for all the prayers for our silly boy Chim!
Chiweruzo had another would inspection today in the ward and his wounds are healing so well! The doctors said he still needs to be checked again this Friday. He has been resting up in bed today and he says he is happy how his hand is healing up. Please continue encouraging and praying for him.
We went over to Chiweruzo's bed looking for him, but could not find him anywhere. After a lot of searching, we found Chiweruzo in playroom and we decided to join him and deliver all your get well messages! He is so much better and his wounds are healing so well! We are so thankful for your prayers and support you share with Chiweruzo.
"How about glasses today, do I not look COOL!," Chiweruzo exclaimed to us. Today has been such a good day for Chiweruzo. He got these glasses and they do look cool on him. Chiweruzo is feeling so much better and we are so happy to see him up and about. Your prayers and support really make a huge impact in the attitude of Chiweruzo.
"The doctors gave me a good hope about my hand! They said I might be going home next week," Chiweruzo told us excitedly. Chiweruzo is doing really well today and the doctors are still taking care of his wound with daily observations and cleanings. Chiweruzo's Auntie Sara is so excited to hear that the wound is healing up well and that they might be going home soon. Continue praying for him and his auntie as they will be still here for a little longer.
Chiweruzo has just had his operation today and we are so thankful that it went so well. We know he will be in pain and we are asking for your prayers and encouragement. Your words are really making a huge impact to the lives of our children here at CURE Malawi. We are so grateful for how you are pouring into these children.
