“I went to fetch water from the well in my village and left Maness with her friends around a fire to keep warm. She was about one at that time and just learning how to walk. When I came back, I found her crying and screaming. Unknowingly, she had stepped in the fire. I left her with kids and they didn’t know what to do, so the burn became worse over the time it took me to come back to the house. I rushed her to the hospital.” Maness’ mother, Estere, shared Maness’ story with deep emotion.
“Our local hospital in Phalombe told us the doctors could not manage Maness’ case and referred us to Zomba Central Hospital. In Zomba, they operated on her and put a cast after. They told me to have a check-up back in Phalombe and when we went, her foot did not heal, but became worse. It had started to bend.”
Maness came into CURE Malawi this week with a burn contracture on her left foot and will be having her first operation with us today. Estere shared, “Looking around I see that CURE operates differently than the hospital in Zomba, so I know my child will be okay.”
When it comes to facing challenges, Estere says, “Maness tries to be a normal kid, so regardless of how hard it is, she walks, she runs and she jumps.” She continued to tell us that Maness doesn’t have severe pain when doing these activities, but struggles with the fact that she appears disabled. “People would mock us and say that I, her mother, was so careless, as if I did it purposefully.”
“I have great expectations for Beit CURE International Hospital. I expect that Maness is going to be fine with the help of God through this hospital. This operation is going to be much better and Maness is going to be just fine.”
“I ask that you pray for her quick healing, and that when her leg properly heals, she will go to school without any problems and have a bright future.”
Please join us in praying for Maness’ journey and healing here with us at CURE Malawi!
We just missed Maness as she left early this morning! The doctors were available to remove the wires out of her foot yesterday evening. Maness was in pain during the removal, but felt much better after and was excited to go home in such quick time! Please be keeping Maness and her mom in your prayers as they travel home! We look forward to seeing her back at the hospital in July!
Maness is back and has been admitted into the hospital. We sure have missed her and her sweet giggles! We showed her some of her photos on her CUREkids profile and her mom chuckled and said, "Wow, I almost forgot that's what her foot looked like." It's only been six weeks, but it's great Maness and her mom are only looking forward and are grateful for the transformation and healing of Maness' foot! Please join us in keeping Maness in your prayers as the doctors come up with her next steps this week!
Maness has been discharged and she is so excited to be going home! This past weekend she bought a new toy- a mini hairbrush mirror! It is her favorite thing! She loves the side with the mirror. Maness not only enjoys looking at herself in the mirror, but also showing other people what they look like. She is quite mesmerized by it! Maness' wounds are healing well and her mom told us not to forget that they will be back on March 25th for a review. Please keep Maness in your prayers as she heals at home!
Maness is on crutches! Today Maness was sent to physio to begin the process of weight bearing. Her wound inspections this week look great and her foot is healing well. She started out on a walker with some tears, and then advanced to crutches with a smile during her physio session! We are so proud of sweet Maness, and are excited for her continued healing! Please keep Maness in your prayers, as she hopes to go home early next week!
Soft smiles from Maness today! Maness is ready for her wound inspection on her right leg where her skin graft was taken, but will wait until Friday for the wound inspection of her left foot. She is really enjoying her time in the hospital and loves hanging with her mom and her hospital bed buddy to her left, Chisomo! Maness and her mom are patiently waiting until Friday, and pray they can go home soon! Please join us in praying for Maness, and that her wound inspections have positive results!
Our sweet Maness is feeling so much better! She's been smiling just about all day long! Since Maness had a wound inspection in the operating room last week, this week she will just have a wound inspection in the ward. If everything looks okay, Maness will be discharged. Please keep Maness in your prayers, for her wound inspection tomorrow or Wednesday, and that God's healing be at work!
Maness was full of giggles this morning! She is feeling much better, and loves drawing with the other kids in the hospital! She had a bath this morning and was not a big fan of it, but still smiled every time we made a silly face her way. Even when Maness is in a lot of pain, she can always put a smile on her face! Maness is so inspiring. She will be having a wound inspection in the operating room tomorrow so please keep her in your prayers as she prepares, and is here with us at the hospital!
Maness loves her get well card! She keeps it by her pillow so she can look at it throughout the day! She's back to all smiles and giggles, and we are glad to see her feeling better. Maness' wound inspection has been bumped up to Wednesday, until then, she'll be hanging around the hospital as she begins to recover. Thank you for keeping Maness in your prayers!
Maness' surgery went really well. She had a smile on her face waking up today! The surgeons released her left foot and took a skin graft from her right leg. Maness is in a little bit of pain, but snacks keep her mind off of it! She will be having a wound inspection next week on Thursday. Please keep her in your prayers, that she has a smooth recovery and gets lots of snacks to bandaid some of the pain!
Meet Maness! She's just come into the hospital this week with a burn contracture on her foot and is having her first operation at CURE Malawi today! The doctors plan to release her contracture and take a skin graft to help her foot heal properly! This sweet girl is only five years old and her mom Estere dreams her daughter can find healing at CURE, so she won't get made fun of for her first year of school next year! Please pray Maness has a successful surgery and smooth recovery, so that she can find full healing and be excited for the bright future to come in kindergarten!
