Francis is a lovely boy who is made his way to CURE with his mom. Christina, Francis’s mother, and her husband felt so hopeless that Francis would ever find a hospital where their son would receive treatment freely. “We have tried our best and we had given up that Francis would get help,” shared Christina. It has been only few months since Francis developed a bone infection in his right leg after he had an operation to fix a fracture.
We learned that Christina had gone to the garden and left her son at home with other siblings to look after Francis. At the time, Francis was in the standing stage of his development. According to Christina, it was believed that Francis fell down. A friend who lives just near Christina’s house came to help Francis and not long after, Christina showed up and took the boy to their clinic for help. Francis had his operation there and was sent home to recover. A few days later, Francis was not feeling well and his leg was swelling up with pain. Christina had no idea what to do. “I knew once I went back to the hospital where Francis had been seen and treated, they would not immediately help me. With the little resources I had, I needed to go to a hospital where my son would be seen and helped. My mind had run out of options to do. We become so hopeless,” Christina shared with us.
Recently, CURE Malawi has been raising awareness about the services we offer. Through that, the news has spread and reached far. A friend to Francis’s mother Christina heard about CURE and she passed the message on that Francis could get help at CURE. “We went to a non governmental organization where Francis was indeed seen! My heart rejoiced when I was asked if I could make it to CURE hospital for help. Before I gave another blink, I told the doctors yes, yes, I will come to CURE for help,” Christina said with joy and hope to us. We are so happy that CURE is available to help Francis and that his mother has peace now. Thank you for your part in making all this possible! Please keep Francis and his mother Christina in your prayers as our doctors will be taking Francis for his operation soon.
Francis has been discharged! We will miss having him around, especially seeing him smile after such a long time. Doctors have said his wound is healing quickly and they have put a cast to support his leg. They have also left a window in the cast for them to be able to see how the wound is healing. Please pray for Francis and his mother Christina as they will be traveling back home!
Francis was outside for some fresh air today! It is summer and it's getting hot here in Malawi. His mother Christina and a few other guardians were sitting on the lawn outside the ward as well. Please continue praying for Francis' healing process!
"I am so happy now that my son Francis is doing great! I was so scared when the nurses were dressing his wound, but now, Francis' leg is much better. On the other hand, the spiritual team has really been amazing to me and my son. I have been taught, counseled, and encouraged spiritually. Thank you so much for your prayers and provision towards Francis' healing," expressed Christina, Frances' mother.
Finally we managed to capture Francis' smile, its so beautiful! Francis is feeling so good today, he has been watching TV with other kids in the ward. Please continue praying for his wound to heal quickly.
Francis was so glued to the TV today and didn't even notice that we were taking his picture. We thank God that he is getting well everyday! He hasn't started smiling yet, but we are getting there. Thank you for your endless prayers for him!
Francis had a good day today, and he even posed for a photograph looking so cute! His wound is healing, and tomorrow he will be going into the theatre for casting. Please join us in praying for him as the wound heals!
Christina and Francis were outside enjoying the warm sunshine today! Francis was managing to touch his toes while hanging onto his mom's back. She was trying to get him to do thumbs up, but he remained a bit reluctant!
Our boy Francis was in tears this morning during ward rounds when Dr. Maina was checking his wound! Later though, we found him so calm as his mother was making him a cup of tea. As Malawians are fond of tea, so is Francis! Please continue praying that wound inspection won't hurt Francis that much!
"Francis has not been happy and his wound is painful. He finds it hard to sleep at night. I have hope that my son will be healed and soon Francis will be well." Please join us in continued prayer along with Christina and the CURE Spiritual Team who have been helping to support and encourage her here, that Francis will feel better and heal quickly.
We're still working on getting a smile out of our little friend Francis, and got just a little hint of one in this photo - his mommy Christina seems really happy though! We're so happy that Francis can be here for healing and hope!
Francis was in a bit of pain and kind of grumpy today, but he seemed to cheer up a bit wrapped up on his mommy's back while they watched a show on TV! Please continue to pray for him as he heals from his operation!
Francis' operation yesterday went well, and he only seems mildly grumpy today post-op! Dr. Saf opened up his femur to remove the infected bone, then left a hole open so that they can regularly dress the bone to promote healing from the inside out. Please be praying for him as wound dressings can be painful and they'll be starting soon, probably tomorrow!
Meet Francis! He is one of the coolest kids we have in our hospital! His right femur has an infection and he will be going into the operating theatre today. Doctors are going to remove the infected bone on his right leg. Please be praying for him as he has his surgery!
