Francis is a lovely boy who is made his way to CURE with his mom. Christina, Francis’s mother, and her husband felt so hopeless that Francis would ever find a hospital where their son would receive treatment freely. “We have tried our best and we had given up that Francis would get help,” shared Christina. It has been only few months since Francis developed a bone infection in his right leg after he had an operation to fix a fracture.
We learned that Christina had gone to the garden and left her son at home with other siblings to look after Francis. At the time, Francis was in the standing stage of his development. According to Christina, it was believed that Francis fell down. A friend who lives just near Christina’s house came to help Francis and not long after, Christina showed up and took the boy to their clinic for help. Francis had his operation there and was sent home to recover. A few days later, Francis was not feeling well and his leg was swelling up with pain. Christina had no idea what to do. “I knew once I went back to the hospital where Francis had been seen and treated, they would not immediately help me. With the little resources I had, I needed to go to a hospital where my son would be seen and helped. My mind had run out of options to do. We become so hopeless,” Christina shared with us.
Recently, CURE Malawi has been raising awareness about the services we offer. Through that, the news has spread and reached far. A friend to Francis’s mother Christina heard about CURE and she passed the message on that Francis could get help at CURE. “We went to a non governmental organization where Francis was indeed seen! My heart rejoiced when I was asked if I could make it to CURE hospital for help. Before I gave another blink, I told the doctors yes, yes, I will come to CURE for help,” Christina said with joy and hope to us. We are so happy that CURE is available to help Francis and that his mother has peace now. Thank you for your part in making all this possible! Please keep Francis and his mother Christina in your prayers as our doctors will be taking Francis for his operation soon.

Francis has been discharged! We will miss having him around, especially seeing him smile after such a long time. Doctors have said his wound is healing quickly and they have put a cast to support his leg. They have also left a window in the cast for them to be able to see how the wound is healing. Please pray for Francis and his mother Christina as they will be traveling back home! Photo of Francis

Francis' operation yesterday went well, and he only seems mildly grumpy today post-op! Dr. Saf opened up his femur to remove the infected bone, then left a hole open so that they can regularly dress the bone to promote healing from the inside out. Please be praying for him as wound dressings can be painful and they'll be starting soon, probably tomorrow! Photo of Francis
