Meet Patience! She's a five year old girl who is Rebecca’s first born child and a source of great joy for her! Patience is an explorer who loves being on the move at all times. Patience is at CURE Kenya to be treated for her bowed legs. When she was little and just learning how to walk, Rebecca noticed that her legs were a bit more curved than normal. She took Patience to be seen by a doctor so she could understand what was happening.
Patience was put under a treatment plan which involved a series of casting and use of braces. There was no improvement in her situation and this meant going back to try and find a permanent solution. Rebecca was directed to a CURE Kenya mobile clinic and she was able to come. She was told that her daughter’s condition would have to be treated through surgery.
Patience and her mum made it to CURE Kenya safely. “I believe that we are in safe hands and that Patience will be healed,” Rebecca told us. We pray that God will heal Patience and that she will leave CURE Kenya transformed physically and spiritually!
“Today, I tried to help her stand on her feet, and she was able to for a few minutes,” Rebecca told us. When we got to see Patience this morning, she was feeling a bit sleepy but wanted to remain awake. This made her a bit gloomy. We are glad she is recovering okay and is actually scheduled to go home tomorrow. Please keep this girl in your prayers.
Most times, the first day after an operation is the toughest on the kids we serve. They are usually very irritable and clingy to their guardians. Patience was struggling this morning, and so she chose to hold her mom’s hand firm to not be left alone. “She asked me to go to the cafeteria to get her chapati (flatbread), but immediately grabbed my hand and asked me not to leave her!” Rebecca told us. Please pray that Patience feels better soon.
This afternoon, Patience was able to go to the operating room. Her procedure is aimed at making her legs straight so that she can maintain a normal posture growing up. Our surgeons determine the angle needed to bring Patience’s legs to the right position by taking x-ray images using the c-shaped arm (seen in this picture) to make sure that her legs are straight. Her operation was successful, and we thank God for blessing our surgeons with the knowledge to complete this surgery for Patience. Please pray for her recovery process.
