Meet John! He is four years shy of seeing his second decade a period where he expects to join high school and continue with his education. “I want to be a doctor when I am done with school!” John told us. John’s elder brother, Wilson is helping this young man to be the best he can.
John was born with clubfoot. He was never treated at any point of his life because his parents had no idea that this could be done. One day a concerned neighbour approached John’s parents and told them that their son didn’t have to live with clubfoot. She directed them to a mobile clinic location a few kilometres from their home and told them when CURE doctors would be there. John was brought to the mobile clinic where they were advised that surgery would help John’s feet become straight. They were booked to come to our CURE hospital in Kenya.
John’s brother Wilson was given the responsibility to bring his brother to hospital and take care of him while he is here. We are grateful that God enabled John and Wilson to get here safely and we pray that John’s transformation journey will start here and be successful.
Today, John went back to the operating room for a wound check. The doctors decided to make a few changes and insert a pin that would help position John’s leg to heal properly. When John came out and saw the tiny change, he was surprised. The pin is visible and kind of startled him. We asked what he was most worried about. “I am afraid that I might feel a lot of pain if the pin is entangled with a blanket when I am sleeping and it moves,” John told us. We asked him to be a bit careful with his leg and told him that before he leaves to go home a proper cast will be put in place to help protect his leg. Please pray for John's comfort and peace during his healing process.
“Why the long face?” we asked John. He told us that his leg feels strange and that there’s a bit of pain. But, his brother told us that he is a Lion and cannot shed tears! John is continuing to heal in the ward. Yesterday, he was taught how to use crutches to move around. We thank God for his progress! Please keep him in your prayers for comfort during his healing process.
John went to the operating room yesterday. The doctors worked on his left leg. They determined that operating on one leg at a time will allow one leg to support the rest of his body to move as the other one heals. The surgery went really well. Please thank God for this step and pray for the healing process.
“We have seen actual people who are being treated here, and they are telling us very positive things!” Wilson told us. Wilson and John are very optimistic that when their time with CURE is done, John will be completely transformed! Please pray for John's healing journey as it is about to begin!
