Simon is the third born in a family of eight children. Simon was born with unilateral clubfoot and has grown up with it ever since. Samuel, Simon's dad, says he took him to a local dispensary but they couldn’t help his son. Samuel heard on the radio that there would be a mobile clinic near his hometown and brought Simon for a check-up. When they got there, he was advised to bring his son to CURE Kenya because he was going to need surgery.
Simon is currently in fourth grade and usually helps in taking care of his father’s livestock when he is not in school. He faces terrain challenges because of his clubfoot and also gets tired if he walks for too long. Samuel is hopeful that Simon will be successfully treated at CURE Kenya.
Please welcome Simon and his dad to the CURE family!
Simon went for a wound check and cast change today. When he came back, he told us that the cast felt different from the dressing that was there before. He said that it was heavier. We encouraged him and told him that the cast is meant to put his leg in the right position as it heals and also to protect his wound from germs and infection. We thank God for Simon and the healing that is taking place. Thank you for your prayers!
This morning, we had a very enlightening conversation about Simon and his faith. Simon is a Christian, and he enjoys attending church while he is at home. We asked him if he goes to Sunday school, and his face lit up with excitement. We asked what are some of the things they learn in Sunday school, and he told us about the Ten Commandments. Physically, Simon is healing well. Thank you for your prayers.
Today, we went to visit Simon in the ward and found him sitting upright and waiting to have some breakfast. He told us that he could feel some pain and pointed exactly where the pain was located. We explained to him what the doctors did and this helped him understand why those specific areas were a bit painful. Please thank God for Simon’s successful procedure, and join us in prayer for his recovery.
Before any surgery, there is usually a small examination done by an anaesthetist just to determine if the child is fit for surgery. After the examination, the anaesthetist prays for the child and then takes the child to the operating room. Usually at this point, parents get emotional because of fear of the unknown and so the prayer helps them to have peace. Simon was taken through this process and then he was taken inside to have his surgery done. The surgery was successful and Simon is currently in recovery. Please say a prayer for him!
Simon is really helpful. This morning we were trying to find another young man who we needed to take photos of and he helped us locate him. He is also very obedient. Please pray for the procedure he is scheduled to have this week!
