CURE in Kenya

The picture above is of CURE in Kenya. Everyone who serves with CURE in Kenya, from medical professionals to office staff, are dedicated to providing the highest quality medical and spiritual care to people who, without CURE, couldn't find it and couldn't afford it, just like Peter. To do that, we're inviting you to partner with us.

We need to raise approximately $1000 to treat children like Peter. When you give a gift through Peter's CUREkids profile, your contribution will help us continue our work in countries like Kenya. Have more questions? Ask us.

Monthly Giving: Be a Hero!

When you partner with us monthly, we'll send you an email each month to introduce you to a different child who was helped because of your generosity. You can choose to follow their updates and send them get well messages. That means that each year, you're a part of helping 12 different children, beginning with Peter. We call it being a CURE Hero!

Got it. Thanks for the explanation.

"I am surprised that my brother's friends don't see it as a disability," Lavender, Peter's sister told us.

Peter was born with clubfoot. He lost his mother at a very young age and would consequently miss being taken to the hospital on time for the serial casting treatment (Ponseti Method). Peter's father noticed his son's left foot was curving inside more and more. He consulted about treatment and soon found hope at his local church through a reference to CURE Kenya. Lavender, Peter's elder sister, was tasked with confirming the credibility of our services, and she concluded that CURE Kenya was the right place to go. Determined to enable his son's education, Peter's father found a way to get Peter to CURE Kenya for treatment.

Peter is at CURE Kenya with his elder sister Lavender. Peter is a shy young man, but when he get's to know you, he loosens up! He is blessed to have friends who see beyond his condition and simply value his friendship. Peter plays like he has no clubfoot, but at night, the pain is very uncomfortable and it is difficult for him to sleep. The good news is that he's in the right place for treatment and healing.

Please join us in welcoming Peter and Lavender to CURE Kenya!

The sun provides a wide range of healing benefits. Some of these benefits are even more valuable to those in recovery, such as Peter. In fact, using the sun’s natural benefits to encourage or enhance the body’s healing abilities is known as heliotherapy. The most prominent vitamin our bodies obtain through exposure to sunlight is Vitamin D - which increases immune system function while elevating your mood. Indeed, Peter felt better and even made a friend in Leon, who also went through surgery. We thank the Lord for giving Peter and Leon a friendship during their recovery time together at CURE. Peter was back in the ward resting after surgery. With the firm nature of casts, Peter developed some pain, and his cast had to be split to allow for healthy blood flow around the area where the incision was made. A new cast will be applied to his leg to protect the tendon as it heals. (This usually takes about 3 weeks.) By the time the cast is removed, the Achilles tendon will have regrown to a proper, longer length, and Peter's clubfoot will be fully corrected. However, Peter and his sister Lavender will have to be careful to follow the doctor's advice. We are honored for you for being part of Peter's transformation journey. Photo of Peter

After praying, our surgeons performed a procedure to correct Peter's clubfoot and align it in a more normal position. The surgical procedure consisted of releasing and lengthening the tight tendons/joint capsule of the foot. Two separate incisions were made, a posteromedial (back of the ankle) incision, and a small lateral incision (at the front side of the ankle). The procedure was performed under a general anesthetic. Peter was asleep and didn't feel any pain during the procedure. Medication with painkillers will help Peter manage the pain after surgery as he recovers in the ward. We thank you for your prayers and support towards Peter's successful surgery. Photo of Peter

"Other kids play with me normally," Peter tells us. Truly, he doesn't seem bothered by it very much. Being the second born in a family of five, he has a lot to live up to when he grows older. He loves football and would one day love to play for the national team! Join us in keeping Peter and his sister Lavender in prayer as they spend their time in CURE! Photo of Peter
