Roda is an eight year old girl who is Alice’s first born child. Roda goes to school and wants to be a doctor when she grows up!

This little lady wasn’t born with any deformity. Her mum says she only noticed it a year ago - that Roda would drag her left leg as she walked. As days went by, the problem persisted and became worse. Roda kept tripping as she walked, causing her to move slowly. As she walked to school other kids would go ahead of her and literally leave her in the dust.

Alice was really concerned and wanted to find out what was happening. She took her daughter to the local hospital but even they couldn't figure out what was going on. Alice and Roda went home disappoint, but Alice wasn't about to give up! Then, one day, one of Roda's uncles came for a visit and saw Roda's feet first hand. This uncle knew of us here at CURE Kenya and suggested Alice bring Roda to us to see if we could do anything. When she did, we were overjoyed to tell her that we can help! Roda and her mum Alice are now here at CURE Kenya and are hopeful that things are going to change. Please pray for Roda as we get her sorted out!

Today Roda learnt how to use crutches to move around. She was very excited because she could not imagine her mum having to carry her on her back like a baby any longer. The physical therapist only needed her to try using the crutches moving down the corridor one way and back to her bed. Roda did approximately four laps and that is very impressive! She is ready to go home and continue her recovery there. Please thank God for healing and pray for journey mercies as Roda and her mum travel home. Photo of Roda

There is a TV right below Roda’s bed in the ward and this morning we found her keeping herself busy by watching cartoons. She is recovering well and her mum tells us that they might go home tomorrow after a session with a physical therapist to teach Roda how to walk using crutches. Please thank God with us for Roda’s progress. Photo of Roda

Roda’s surgery involved lengthening a tendon in her foot so that, after she heals, she'll be able to gain some more functionality. The surgeon told us that the goal of the surgery is to stop Roda from dragging her foot behind and to help her to stop falling when she walks. That's a goal we can support and are so excited as she now begins her recovery process! Photo of Roda

It's a little hard to see in the photo, but in the video you can see how Roda's left foot curves in and she has to be cautious when stepping with it. She's just a little cautious in general now, being in a new place with new people, but we're excited to get to know her more and see her transform! https://youtu.be/Ypy9qfUqDZM
