CURE in Kenya

The picture above is of CURE in Kenya. Everyone who serves with CURE in Kenya, from medical professionals to office staff, are dedicated to providing the highest quality medical and spiritual care to people who, without CURE, couldn't find it and couldn't afford it, just like Peace. To do that, we're inviting you to partner with us.

We need to raise approximately $1000 to treat children like Peace. When you give a gift through Peace's CUREkids profile, your contribution will help us continue our work in countries like Kenya. Have more questions? Ask us.

Monthly Giving: Be a Hero!

When you partner with us monthly, we'll send you an email each month to introduce you to a different child who was helped because of your generosity. You can choose to follow their updates and send them get well messages. That means that each year, you're a part of helping 12 different children, beginning with Peace. We call it being a CURE Hero!

Got it. Thanks for the explanation.

"Her father hid her away from people the moment he saw her deformity." Peace's Aunt Norah tells us with a slight shake of her head.

Peace is, as her name implies, a peaceful, quiet, and humble eight year-old girl. She wasn't born with any deformity. It all started when she went to visit her father (who worked out of town) and as she was playing with her cousins. They climbed an avocado tree to pick those huge fruits (Kenya has the biggest wild avocados you've ever seen). Unfortunately, the higher you go, the weaker the branches get. As she was reaching for one of the biggest avocado, Peace slipped and fell down badly hurting her hip. From that day onward, she's been limping and bending over has been causing her lots of pain.

When Aunt Norah was visiting Peace's father, she noticed Peace was not given the right medical attention. "I noticed she was not allowed to go out. It's like they were embarrassed of her." Norah shared with us. Norah took matters into her own hands and sought help at a local hospital. It was there they were referred here to CURE Kenya after a series of tests. Peace is now here for a surgery that will sort out her hip and help her gain confidence in walking as well as finally eliminating the pain she constantly lives with!

Despite the post-op discomfort in her leg, Peace was able to try some physical therapy exercises with the help of George, our physical therapist. She was determined to go further but George encouraged her to do it in small pieces. The transformation journey is slow but Peace is getting better and better every day! Photo of Peace

After the surgery, Peace was resting in the ward as Naomi, our nurse, was taking her vitals to ensure that she was healthy and recovering well. We thank you all for your support and prayer during Peace's time here with us. Photo of Peace

The doctors performed a procedure called an osteotomy on Peace today. The procedure cut and reshaped Peace's femur. Peace needed this type of operation to repair her damaged hip that occurred as a result of her fall from a tree. The doctors also lengthened her femur a little since it didn't line up with her hip socket like it should. Kindly continue praying for this young woman! Photo of Peace

Peace is a very shy girl ... probably a trait developed by constantly being kept indoors due to the mocking from fellow kids who call her a cripple. She however loves skipping rope! We kindly call upon you to join us in prayer as Peace starts her transformation journey here at CURE Kenya! Photo of Peace
