What am I giving to?

CURE in Kenya

The picture above is of CURE in Kenya. Everyone who serves with CURE in Kenya, from medical professionals to office staff, are dedicated to providing the highest quality medical and spiritual care to people who, without CURE, couldn't find it and couldn't afford it, just like Adeer. To do that, we're inviting you to partner with us.

We need to raise approximately $1000 to treat children like Adeer. When you give a gift through Adeer's CUREkids profile, your contribution will help us continue our work in countries like Kenya. Have more questions? Ask us.

Monthly Giving: Be a Hero!

When you partner with us monthly, we'll send you an email each month to introduce you to a different child who was helped because of your generosity. You can choose to follow their updates and send them get well messages. That means that each year, you're a part of helping 12 different children, beginning with Adeer. We call it being a CURE Hero!

Got it. Thanks for the explanation.

"I risked my job and took a leave because I didn't want my brother to go through the same stigma that I went through with a disability," Rachael, Adeer's sister shared with us.

Adeer was born and still lives in a large refugee camp in Kenya. He had no health complications whatsoever but earlier this year, his sister Rachael started noticing Adeer's knees looking closer to one another than normal. Being a nurse at the refugee camp, she sought advise from the doctors that came during clinics. One of the clinics was hosted by CURE Kenya and Adeer was scheduled for proper diagnosis.

"Most children in the camp have rickets and when I first saw Adeer's knees, that was the first thing that came to mind but after seeing it persist, I risked everything to help him," Rachael told us. She had a polio surgery when she was 13 years old. Rachael understands the journey of living with a disability and she didn't want the same for Adeer, her baby brother.

After convincing their aging father and big brother, they took Adeer out of the camp and are now here at CURE Kenya for a surgery to correct his knocked knees.

We caught Adeer having his final lunch at CURE. We gave him a teddy bear to remind him of his time with us when he returns to the refugee camp. Adeer recovered well and he is able to eat, sit, stand, and walk with minimal assistance. Since the doctor gave him the clear, Adeer and his sister Rachael will be heading home and will see their father sooner than expected! We kindly ask you to continue to pray for Adeer as he starts his recovery at home. Photo of Adeer

Adeer was outside earlier today to get some sun and also to fulfill his promise of being back on his feet after two days! Going over the speed bump was a bit challenging since it involved bending the knee and lifting the leg. However, Adeer was strong and made it back to the ward safely. He is currently resting as he waits for the doctors review and be possibly discharged on Friday. This, by far, is truly a miracle of God! Photo of Adeer

The doctors assigned to treat Adeer performed the "guided growth surgery" which means stopping the growth on the bent side of the bone (inside of the knee). This was done by implanting small metal devices to the medial part of the knee allowing the lateral part to grow and straighten the knee. Adeer was strong throughout the surgery and was taken back to the ward where his sister was waiting. We sincerely thank you for the prayers during Adeer's surgery and grateful for the messages you've been sending their way. Photo of Adeer

Rachael accompanied her little brother to the OR waiting area earlier this morning. Adeer was the third one on the list to have surgery today. As he was being prepared to go in, he promised his sister that he'll be strong and will be back on his feet in two days––what a specific goal! Kindly join us in prayer as Adeer goes in for a procedure to correct his knees and be able to continue with school back at camp. Photo of Adeer

Adeer is the last born in his family and you know what that means? He is getting all the love from his family and especially from his aging father who is in his sunset days. Adeer was joking about how there's so much freedom outside the refugee camp and how he's going treasure it while it lasts. He's not even nervous about the surgery! We welcome you to join us in prayer and support for Adeer's time at CURE Kenya! Photo of Adeer
