CURE in Kenya

The picture above is of CURE in Kenya. Everyone who serves with CURE in Kenya, from medical professionals to office staff, are dedicated to providing the highest quality medical and spiritual care to people who, without CURE, couldn't find it and couldn't afford it, just like Esther. To do that, we're inviting you to partner with us.

We need to raise approximately $1000 to treat children like Esther. When you give a gift through Esther's CUREkids profile, your contribution will help us continue our work in countries like Kenya. Have more questions? Ask us.

Monthly Giving: Be a Hero!

When you partner with us monthly, we'll send you an email each month to introduce you to a different child who was helped because of your generosity. You can choose to follow their updates and send them get well messages. That means that each year, you're a part of helping 12 different children, beginning with Esther. We call it being a CURE Hero!

Got it. Thanks for the explanation.

“Esther wasn’t born with her disability. We discovered it when she was four years and we noticed her way of walking changed” Lillian, Esther’s mum, told us.

Esther is a 13 year old girl who is in 6th grade. She has a dream of becoming a doctor when she grows up because she wants to help people feel better. Esther has a deformity commonly known as bow legs where the child's legs bend outwards into a curved shape. Lillian had initially taken her daughter to a local hospital where she was told to give it some time and see if Esther's legs correct themselves. Unfortunately, Esther's legs did the exact opposite and only got worse with time. Thankfully though, a friend told Lillian about one of our CURE Kenya mobile clinic we were going to be holding at a church in her hometown. They were seen and we were able to confirm we could help straighten Esther's legs!

Lillian tells us that she looks forward to her daughter's healing because it will take away the intense stigmas associated with disability in Kenya. While Esther dreams of being a doctor, Lillian just dreams of Esther being able to be a normal teenage girl.

George, our physical therapist, was really encouraging Esther to take baby steps during her physical therapy session earlier today. Lillian (Esther's mom) was onlooking as her daughter got out of bed and made a few steps. The cast on Esther's leg is quite heavy and the movement was slightly uncomfortable. As a result, she was very slow. This did not worry her as she made ten steps to and fro in her ward area! We thank God for these baby steps towards recovery! Photo of Esther

Esther finally had her surgery! It took a little while but everything eventually worked out! The doctors installed a small metal plate on her knee which will basically guide her legs as the grow, enabling them to straighten themselves out! The correction will slowly happen over the next six to twelve months and then Esther will have the plates taken out. We thank God for the success in Esther's journey! Photo of Esther

Esther is still waiting to go to the operating room and we are hopeful that it will happen tomorrow! Photo of Esther

Today Esther kept herself busy by trying to make her tiny mouse doll wear a mask and stay safe. She told us that she is feeling okay and understands that she has to wait a little bit longer before she can have her surgery. Photo of Esther

Esther is still waiting for her surgery. Meanwhile, she's hanging out in her bed, making sure to stay tightly wrapped in her blankets because it's cold season here in Kenya! Photo of Esther

Esther is a joyful young lady with an awesome smile. Her mum told us that she is a very hardworking girl who has a huge dream of becoming a doctor when she grows up. We pray that this surgery will help her live to her full potential and achieve all her dreams. Please pray for the procedure to be successful. Photo of Esther
