CURE in Kenya

The picture above is of CURE in Kenya. Everyone who serves with CURE in Kenya, from medical professionals to office staff, are dedicated to providing the highest quality medical and spiritual care to people who, without CURE, couldn't find it and couldn't afford it, just like Divon. To do that, we're inviting you to partner with us.

We need to raise approximately $1000 to treat children like Divon. When you give a gift through Divon's CUREkids profile, your contribution will help us continue our work in countries like Kenya. Have more questions? Ask us.

Monthly Giving: Be a Hero!

When you partner with us monthly, we'll send you an email each month to introduce you to a different child who was helped because of your generosity. You can choose to follow their updates and send them get well messages. That means that each year, you're a part of helping 12 different children, beginning with Divon. We call it being a CURE Hero!

Got it. Thanks for the explanation.

"I ran home scared to my gut after receiving news that my son had fallen head first from a two-story building." Divon's father Dennis remembered.

Divon was just three years old at the time and had been lounging in the sun at the top of the stairs. His grandmother had stepped away for a moment to soothe another grandchild who was crying. Being a social little guy, Divon tried to follow and ended up not falling down the stairs, but off the stairs onto his head. Dennis had just left the house but was called back to his dismay. Divon was his pride and joy and the thought of losing him was devastating to Dennis.

Dennis and his mother, Divon's grandmother, called the ambulance, but Divon's head was already beginning to alarmingly swell. Divon was eventually stabilized in the ICU and he recovered, but due to his brain injury he's been struggling with some side effects of the accident ever since. Divon's left foot can no longer sit flat on the floor. His leg muscles and tendons have contracted in odd ways, forcing his foot into a permanent tip-toe position. The doctors that saved Divon's life recommended physical therapy, but that is expensive and both Divon and Dennis have done their best to work on Divon's leg themselves.

Despite the seemingly hopeless situation, Divon's mother has never given up her search for specialized care for Divon. Then, this past June, her determination was finally rewarded when she learned about our mobile clinic taking place near their home. Now that Divon is here at CURE Kenya, he will receive surgery for his leg which will allow him to finally use his foot normally and finally put this part of his accident behind him!

Would you look at that! Divon is able to move around with his new walker. He even went as far as the toilet to relieve himself all by himself! This was just before his father had packed up their bags since Divon is being discharged today. We thank God and your continued support for his positive recovery and for a safe journey as he continues his recovery at home. Photo of Divon

Divon is not much of a talker. "Since his accident, he has become calmer and quieter. He gets hyper when necessary ... like yesterday when he helped scare the monkeys away from the ward windows!" Dennis, Divon's father said with a laugh. He however said that he was a bit anxious about the surgery. All in all, we thank God that Divon is now at CURE Kenya for his hamstring release surgery to enable his leg stretch all the way down for a normal position while walking. Photo of Divon
