“I only saw my baby the following day after delivery and that’s when I got the shocker.” Celestine, Mitchelle’s mother, told us.

Mitchelle is a super-charged young 6 year old girl who was born with duplicate big toes on each of her feet. Being a first time mom, Celestine was overjoyed to have a daughter and was excited to perform the cultural "first baby bath," but her joy was cut short when she noticed Mitchelle's big toes. What was supposed to be a moment of joy, turned into confusion. Celestine called her mom with the news only to be surprised that her mom wasn't surprised. It turns out, this is a genetic condition and others in Mitchelle's and Celestine's family have had this same condition. Celestine's mom told her that the others in their family have just lived with this condition, but this wasn't good enough for Celestine. Celestine searched and searched for a solution to Mitchelle's toes, but never found anything. This is until her boss at work heard about Mitchelle and recommended they come to our CURE Kenya mobile clinic which was happening in their town.

For years now, Mitchelle has been mocking and jeered at because her toes. She's been made to feel different and "less than." Thankfully this will all end soon as Mitchelle has been admitted here to CURE Kenya to get her toes sorted out!

Mitchelle was happy that she will be going home and she is going to tell everyone stories of her time at CURE Kenya. Thank you for your support in helping achieve Mitchelle's dream! It's a bit chilly today so when we caught up with Mitchelle this morning, she was wearing her big jacket and watching cartoons. Her feet have recovered well and yesterday she got a dressing. Our doctors are keeping an eye on her and say she's up for a possible discharge later this week. We thank the Lord Almighty for the recovery this far! Photo of Mitchelle

Celestine was reading the get well messages to Mitchelle you've been sending their way. Mitchelle's surgery was a success and the doctors were able remove the duplicates and align her big toes to a normal position. "I'm glad we have friends who have us in their thoughts and prayers." Celestine shared about your messages. Photo of Mitchelle

If Mitchelle was a PowerPuff Girls character, she would definitely be 'Bubbles!' We love her jovial and happy character. She was in the ward aisle playing with a balloon while she counted 1-100. Mitchelle will be going for her surgery later on in the day since her procedure is not that complicated. Photo of Mitchelle
